Summary

Use appropriate teaching methods to support and magnify student learning for courses in First Aid, Physical Education, and/or Physical Education Activity Courses.


Duties
  • Teaches synchronous or asynchronous courses using current technology applicable to the discipline which may include face to face, online, and/or video-conferenced courses as needed.


  • Collaborates with Teacher Education Program faculty on course design, administration of key assessments, and appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.


  • Follows master syllabi and master course shells when provided and ensure course content, activities, and assignments are established. Course content includes, but is not limited to, syllabus, course policies, interactive learning, project-based learning, video supports, assignments and instructions, grading rubrics, etc.


  • Meets all designated course instruction guidelines, including but not limited to, posting weekly announcements with relevant information, monitoring/participating in discussions, grading student coursework within 1 week of submission deadline, providing students timely and specific feedback, responding to student inquiries within 24 hours, maintaining weekly virtual office hours, and other requirements as established by the Teacher Education Programs Department.


  • Maintains frequent and open communication with the Teacher Education Programs Department Chair, faculty and staff through email, mail, telephone, and any other medium deemed appropriate. Ensures availability, at least once a semester, to attend a virtual meeting with the Chair.


  • Submits mid-term and end of term grades by required deadline according to WNMU procedures.


  • Maintains a positive, safe, inclusive student-centric learning environment that supports success by enforcing WNMU policies to include student code of conduct policies, and those established by the Teacher Education Programs Department, College of Education and Office of Academic Affairs.


  • Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU and the College of Education mission and vision statements.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education/Background

For academic coursework, Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate level work within the corresponding program required; doctorate degree preferred. Three (3) years of experience teaching in the K-12 classroom required. Experience teaching at the bachelors or master’s level preferred.

For physical education activity courses, certification within the field being taught is required.

For both: bilingual (Spanish) preferred.


Job Knowledge

Teaching in person online, hybrid and video conference courses. Knowledge of online learning platforms and appropriate software tools to increase interactivity within distance learning courses. Experience in a supervisory position. Background in current evidence-based teaching strategies and innovative approaches to pedagogy will be an asset. Must be able to adapt to instructional needs of the department depending on circumstances. Must be knowledgeable of University policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications.


Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)

Normal office environment, may travel some within the community when needed. May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/ conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
