The Patient Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner, assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. Additionally, the Patient Care Technician may assume the responsibilities of a health unit coordinator.
On the Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit we treat patients with Leukemia, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, and Aplastic Anemia. We administer Chemotherapy, blood products including PRBC’s, Platelets, and FFP. We also do CAR-T and Cellular therapy. Our patients are immunocompromised, and we treat infections with multiple antibiotics. Our patients have central lines to accommodate the many infusions they are receiving. We are considered an intermediate care unit with patient ratios on day 3:1 and 4:1 on nights due to the complexity of our patients. It is a great unit to learn on as a new grad and develop your nursing and critical thinking skills. Staff are engaged in mentoring new employees and work well together as a team.
