Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director or a lead worker, the maintenance workeris responsible for the performance of routine and/or assigned daily tasks for keeping parkland, athletic fields and other parks and recreation buildings and facilities in a safe, clean and well-maintained condition.Parks Maintenance Workers will be required to assist with special events and seasonal operations, which will require evening and weekend hours.

1 Independently perform routine and/or daily assignments and work as part of a project team. Examples include (but are not limited to) grounds keeping, mowing, trimming, mulching, trash removal, athletic field preparation, janitorial, event setup and cleanup, etc.
2 While in the field, independently identify routine problems and resolve issues on-site. (Such as trimming and correcting mulch issues when picking up trash at a park).
3 Safe and effective operation of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
4 Operates trucks with plows to remove snow and ice from roads and park areas to ensure safe passage for vehicle travel.
5 Maintains and repairs City facilities, including buildings, park areas, ball fields, splashpad, etc.
6 Removes debris and other safety hazards from streets, parks, trails, buildings, storm drains, alleys, and adjacent public areas.
7 Assists in the fabrication, installation and maintenance of city welding needs, including fences, signs, railings, items for other departments, etc.
8 Work evenings and weekends as required for Park and Recreation and City wide events, programs, and services.
9 Maintain and repair park and City drainage systems and appurtances.
10 Coordinate weekend event and rental needs for facilities and sport fields, greeting renters/organizers, ensuring agreements are followed and customer service standards are met.
11 Obtain and maintain turf and pesticide spraying licenses.
12 Obtain and maintain CPO or AFO certification.
13 Respond to 24 hour calls for operating and maintaining the splashpad when there is a technical/chemical/computer operating system error.
14 Respond to 24 hour calls for snow removal.
15 Work with IT department to operate, review and maintain park video surveillance systems.
16 Manual labor required. Manually shovel and move salt, dirt, snow etc.; lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
17 Conduct work in all kinds of weather: pleasant, inclement and hazardous.
18 Respond to emergency situations as needed involving accidents, debris, or other situations.
19 Required to accept a 24 hour emergency call for response status.

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Experience in some or all of the following skills: grounds keeping, park maintenance, operation and preventive maintenance of zero turn mowers, proper use of hand tools and power equipment, operating pickup truck, dump truck and snow plow, tractor, skid steer, major plumbing, electrical and carpentry skills and small engine repair.
Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License
Obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid and AED certification (within first year of employment).
Obtain and maintain Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Position (prior to end of probationary period).
Obtain and maintain State Turf/Pesticide spraying certifications applicable to work requirements (within first year of employment).
Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintainefficiencyand safety.
Assist with special events and seasonal operations, requiring evening and weekend hours.
Accept and work on-call shifts as required by operations.
Takes initiative to identify and report problems to the crew chief.
Offer suggestions for improving productivity and/ or cost reduction to improve operations.
Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures.
Perform all assignments using appropriate personal safety equipment and/or protective clothing.
Participate in organized and/or on the job training.
Replace and repair waterlines in parks and at City facilities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work is usually performed in an outdoor environment within the City limits.The employee will be exposed to loud noise, mechanized equipment, dirt, dust,snow, heat, chemicals, and foul odors. Performs physical labor under all weather conditions for extended periods of time, involving the use of power tools and equipment, chemicals and materials and potential exposure to unknown pathogens. Uses power tools and equipment.? Work requires sufficient physical strength and ability to independently?and repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to100pounds and to repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing more than 100 pounds with assistance.
