Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Paralegal or Legal Assistant to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in various areas of law, including but not limited to estate planning, business law, and litigation. This role is essential in supporting attorneys with legal research, document management, and case preparation. The Paralegal or Legal Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our law office while providing exceptional administrative support.


Responsibilities


1. Internal Firm Accounting-Organize, balance, and maintain internal accounting records (checking account and client trust account), Use Quickbooks and Excel, coordinate with firm's third-party accountant.


2. General Firm Billing-Monitor new and old client matter completions; process and mail bills to clients in coordination with attorneys.


3. Email Account-Monitor email account.


4. Telephones-Answer telephones, transfer calls to attorneys, take messages, refer out cases the firm cannot handle, greet and seat clients for meetings.


5. Draft Legal Documents-Draft legal and other documents, such as estate plans, litigation documents, or correspondence.


6. Banking-Deposit and record payments that come in to the firm bank account. Record internally as well.


7. Open New Files --Set up new clients in the firm's client management software, run necessary conflict of interest checks, create file folder.


8. Record deeds and real estate documents via e-file at Register of Deeds offices.


9. Mailings-sending out mailings and legal correspondence.


10. Firm Costs-Pay and record any bills that come due to the firm.


Experience


  • Previous paralegal experience or legal administrative experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with litigation and estate planning preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent writing skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence.
  • Proficiency in using document management systems and legal research tools.
  • Experience in project management within a legal context is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of various areas of law such as civil litigation, estate planning, business law, etc., will be beneficial.
  • Experience with firm accounting practices.


Job Types: Full-time, Part-time


Pay: $30,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year


Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
