Over Night Family Teacher


Supervision: Night Shift Coordinators


Required Qualification: A high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining intermediate certification in the Mandt System of nonphysical and physical intervention with aggressive youth.


Job Summary: The Night Family Teacher’s primary responsibility is the care and safety of the residents on the living units during normal sleeping hours. He/she will respond to unusual situations and communicate completely with immediate supervisor and shift change staff concerning each resident, the living unit, buildings and grounds.


Resident and staff privacy and confidentiality is protected at all times. Minimum necessary access to resident and staff records and information is assigned based on the job duties and responsibilities outlined below.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Provides constant supervision on assigned unit.


2. Provides constant supervision and participation in all chapel activities.


3. Ensures the physical needs, with regard to care and safety, of the residents are met


quickly and efficiently.


4. Documents complete, descriptive and timely reports, including progress notes and


communication log for each shift by shift end.


5. Visually checks each individual resident at least once every fifteen (15) minutes on an


irregular schedule by entering each room and noting the sleeping pattern and physical well being of each resident.


6. Communicates any concerns with the Night Rover regarding conditions on the unit,


in the building and on grounds. Reports information to Residential Supervisor as events occur or prior to leaving sift.


7. Remains physically and mentally alert to assure the safety and care of each resident.


8. Assures that all duties have been completed, such as unit cleanliness, resident


medication, etc., at shift end.


9. Attends all required meetings and completes all training as scheduled to meet standards for ongoing education.


10. Demonstrates a willingness to work with and understand the cultural differences within the resident and staff population.

11. Will assist in special projects including but not limited to the animal programs, which may include assisting residents with feeding, watering, and maintaining the animal living areas for cleanliness.


12. Reviews, checks for accuracy and totals resident point cards. Completes weekly point sheet and ratio sheet in a timely manner


13. Will follow established procedures in the dispensing of medications to ensure the residents receive scheduled prescribed medications on time and in the proper dosage.


14. Remains at designated area during the time children are in their rooms.


15. Using the Teaching Family Model, builds a

positive, caring, professional relationship with


the residents.


16. Will provide a telephone number (which may be a message number) to St. Joseph’s for staff use in reaching employee when not on duty.


17. Will ensure that all residents are treated with

dignity and respect at all times and their rights are not violated.


18. Ensures the mission of St. Joseph’s, including the spiritual formation of residents, is an integral part of the healing process.


19. Will perform other duties as may be assigned.


This position has a schedule of 4-10-hour shifts that will range from 10:30pm to 8:30am or 11:00pm to 9:00am
