Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.


Job Summary

---------------


Manages the occupational safety component of the University's Environmental Health and Safety operations and evaluating occupational safety hazards. Responsible for implementing occupational safety control programs designed to mitigate hazards and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and internal policies and procedures.


Responsibilities

--------------------


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Analyzes work environments and practices to identify potential hazards and develop strategies for controlling them


2. Conducts inspections and evaluations of work environments, equipment, and job practices in maintenance shops, construction projects, art studios, science and research labs, and other areas to assess risks and ensure adherence to applicable EHS laws and regulations


3. Recommends feasible and effective measures to control identified hazards and mitigate risk to ensure continued protection from potentially hazardous work conditions


4. Works with supervisors, laboratory Pl's, faculty members, project managers, and engineers to ensure effective implementation of identified control measures addressing potentially hazardous conditions or equipment


5. Designs and implement management and operation control programs including policies and procedures to eliminate or reduce risks and prevent disease or injury to KSU community and damage to environment


6. Supervises staff and develop and conduct safety training for staff, faculty and students


7. Conduct accident and incident investigations to identify causes and determine future preventative measures


8. Participates in and provide technical guidance and leadership on various campus Safety Committees


9. Maintains records and produce/provide routine reports for regulatory agencies and top management


10. Participates in response to campus emergency situations and provide technical guidance on safety issues related to response efforts


11. Participates in interdepartmental and cross-functional teams to advocate for and advance University EHS initiatives and compliance objectives


12. Reviews new facility plans for compliance with applicable laws, regulations and best practices


13. Assists in general safety oversight and duties as part of KSU EHS team


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements


Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Occupational Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related scientific or technical field, such as Engineering, Biology, or Chemistry


Other Required Qualifications


Current, valid, and unrestricted Georgia driver's license


Required Experience


Five (5) years of related work experience in Occupational Health and Safety field in a large organization


Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications


Professional certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is highly desirable


Preferred Educational Qualifications


Master's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or related discipline


Preferred Experience


Higher education experience


Experience in designing and conducting safety audits and inspections including ability to communicate the finding in written reports


Experience in developing and conducting safety training for different audiences including staff, supervisors and managers


Collaborative work experience

The budgeted salary range is $63,800 to $71,000. Offers are based on relevant experience.

Ability to analyze and solve problems including applying knowledge and experience of EHS operations to find feasible and effective solutions to unsafe working conditions and environmental concerns on campus


Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions, interpret campus maps and basic drawings


Ability to deliver services and products to meet customer needs


Ability to wear appropriate safety and protective equipment including medical clearance for respirator use


Able to attend professional development courses/conferences


Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines


KNOWLEDGE


Sound knowledge of EHS operations and best practices


Thorough knowledge and experience in implementing technical safety and safety programs including electrical safety, construction safety, lock-out tag-out, confined space entry, fall protection, welding safety


Knowledge of federal and state safety rules and regulations


SKILLS


Strong attention to detail and leadership and follow up skills


Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)


Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, technology, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills


Strong customer service skills and phone etiquette
