The Medical Bridge Unit is an 11-bed observation unit dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients transitioning from the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), the Emergency Department, or direct admissions from home. Our unit frequently treats patients with post-surgical hysterectomies, hip fractures, and both pre- and post-operative orthopedic conditions, as well as those with pancreatitis and gallbladder issues.
The Medical Bridge Unit offers a dynamic environment to learn about a varied patient population. Each day is fast-paced and engaging, staffed by two dedicated nurses, one nurse tech, and a Core Charge nurse who also supports our sister unit, Adult Overflow.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITSAssist nursing staff /ancillary staff in transferring patients from bed to bed,
stretcher or wheelchair, pickup, and delivery of patient meal trays, and
assisting with patient feeding as directed.
Demonstrate the ability to organize workload and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a clutter-free and orderly environment including prompt answering of unit telephones and accurate delivery of messages and information to patients, families, visitors, staff, and personnel upon request.
Educate and train new staff members in the responsibilities of the Care Team Associate role.
Perform other duties as delegated by nursing staff and unit management as needed in both routine and emergent situations.
Perform patient position changes, placement and removal of patient equipment, daily hygiene care, simple non-sterile dressing changes, finger stick glucose checks, may perform venipuncture to obtain a blood sample, maintain quality control checks, and deliver/retrieve lab specimens and supplies as requested.
Responsible for accurate and timely entry of information into the bed-management system.
Responsible for prompt response to patient call lights and addressing patient needs using positive guest relations skills while ensuring patient vital signs, intake, output, height, and weight are obtained and documented as directed.
May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.
One of the following:
assistant, emergency medical technician (EMT), or surgical technician in the past three (3) years; or
examinations in the past three (3) years; or
Completion of an above qualification’s pathway, including patient care experience or a supervised clinical log, within 180 days as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAdditional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring
department.
This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have
contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during
inclement weather will be required.
