Seattle Colleges is looking to hire a Project Baldwin Navigator in the Division for Access, Community, and Opportunity for Project Baldwin


Salary Range for this position is $60,391 - $83,397 annually (depending on experience).

Position Summary


Seattle Colleges, a multi-college district, serves Seattle and its surrounding communities at three comprehensive college campuses and five specialty training centers. Seattle Colleges Project Baldwin Initiatives are made possible by multiple donors committed to advancing a sense of belonging for men of color. Under the guidance of the Division for Access, Community, and Opportunity (ACO) Project Baldwin's mission is to boost completion and transfer outcomes for underserved students of color with a focus on Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Southeast Asian male identified students. Project Baldwin partners with its districtwide leadership Advisory Board to build capacity to support students with achieving academic and career goals. One of Project Baldwin's core deliverables is to provide one-on-one mentorship at each of the three Seattle Colleges campuses with a peer, staff, faculty, alumni, or industry mentor. Participants may be in any of several study tracks: an associate degree (with or without intent to transfer), one of the College's growing number of applied baccalaureate programs, a registered Apprenticeship, or another professional credential.


Under the supervision of the Project Baldwin Director, the Project Baldwin Navigator will provide general advising and college navigation services for students served by the program's mission to boost completion and transfer outcomes and create a sense of belonging on each campus.


This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8:00AM-4:30PM.


This position works a hybrid schedule of both remote and on-site work.


This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT Pro-Staff.

What you will be working on:


CASE MANAGEMENT


  • Provide general advising referral support to students, including, but not limited to, enrollment, funding guidance, counseling services, disability services, student leadership, etc.
  • Work with underserved students to develop realistic and achievable goals that will contribute to academic and personal success; develop interpersonal student partnership to higher order thinking.
  • Collaborate with Project Baldwin's Director to implement procedures to recruit among admitted and registered students to assess, identify, and select eligible students into the program.
  • Maintain a caseload of approximately 125 students per quarter and track student GPAs, enrollment, persistence, and interventions used to address student needs, and oversee programmatic efforts to develop transfer, postgraduate, and career plans.


PROGRAMMING


  • Oversee programmatic efforts relevant to student success, including, but not limited to, time management, organization, and study skills.
  • Work closely with Seattle Promise, admissions, Financial Aid, United Way Benefits Hub, Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL), Project Maya, Path to UW, and other academic personnel to provide accurate and appropriate information to underserved students such as low-income and first-generation college students regarding college policies, program of study, degree options, appropriate course selection and fulfilling degree/certificate requirements.
  • Coordinate with campus partners in developing and referring students to relative events, activities, and programs centering around academic and professional skill development.


STUDENT MENTOR SUPERVISION


  • Coordinate and facilitate the recruitment and hiring process of student mentors.
  • Supervise student facing communication and information efforts such as social media, emails, and canvas.
  • Actively participate in the College's Equity Initiative and attend other meetings as needed.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)


  • Associate's degree or equivalent and three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience in office, OR Bachelor's Degree in social sciences, education, human services, college student personnel, counseling psychology, student development or related field, OR equivalent education/experience and three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience.
  • 1-2 years working closely with student services in higher education, preferably at a community college that utilizes PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
  • Advising, counseling and/or coaching experience.
  • Experience with facilitating educational workshops.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing culturally and equity responsive interventions to underrepresented, marginalized and vulnerable populations.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve effectively with a diverse team of co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines while being attentive to detail.
