Middle and Upper School Art Long-Term Sub


This is a long-term sub position within the Visual Arts department reporting to the Head of Upper School.


Major Responsibilities:


Teach eight* minor sections (minors meet 2x-3x per week per rotation) of Middle (8th) and Upper School Art (9th-12th)
  • Work with the Middle School Art Teacher and other Upper School faculty teaching Foundations to deliver the 8th and 9th grade curriculum
  • Grading, evaluation and assessment of student work and growth
  • Daily Attendance
  • Set up and maintain supplies and classroom
  • Demonstrate agreed upon Foundations 9 curriculum techniques
  • Some coverage for other classes during open periods (up to 2 periods per 10 day rotation)


Qualifications:


The successful candidate must have...


  • a Bachelor's Degree in Art, Art Education, or related field
  • experience in teaching art in grades 8-12
  • a passion for teaching students in the upper grades with empathy and pedagogically proven methods
  • familiarity with teaching a broad variety of art materials and techniques
  • commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and the school community
  • willingness to collaborate with children, families, and colleagues within and across departments
  • interest in engaging in professional development, meeting with various divisions and departments for planning purposes


The ideal candidate will have...


  • a Master's Degree in Art, Art Education, or related field
  • extensive prior experience in teaching art in grades 8 - 12
  • curriculum development experience
  • experience teaching in independent schools
  • familiarity with Educational Management Systems and other technology
  • interest in advising and be committed to playing an active role in the school
