Job Description:
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Accuray Precision System with Synchrony. (Tomotherapy and Radixact).
The Medical Physicist performs specification, acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment; calibrates radioactive sources, accelerators and maintains information for their use.
This position determines if radiation equipment is safe for clinical use, develops and maintains the radiation Quality Assurance program, maintains all instrumentation required, and develops and administers the radiation safety program.
The Medical Physicist supervises source preparation and handling during brachytherapy, calculates shielding, provides consultation and support to the radiation oncologists, develops techniques to improve the imaging and delivery of radiation treatments, calculates dose distributions and machine settings, assures accuracy of treatment unit parameters and settings, and supervises the safety of the dosimetrists and radiation therapists.
Provides consultations to the Radiation Oncologists on the physical and radiobiological aspects of patients� treatments and the development of treatment plans.
Supervises source preparation and handling during brachytherapy and the continual maintenance of the brachytherapy source inventory.
Supervises dosimetrists and supports Radiation Oncologists in treatment delivery
Assures accuracy of treatment unit parameters and settings used for a patient�s treatment, including correct transfer of parameters between the simulator, treatment plan and the treatment unit, and periodic review of each patient�s chart.
Develops techniques to improve the delivery of radiation treatments and calculates dose distributions and machine settings for patient treatments. Develops and administers the radiation safety program for Altru Health System
Develops, follows, and maintains the Quality Assurance program for all radiation treatment modalities, localization procedures, imaging, and computational equipment and programs to assure that patients receive prescribed doses and dose distributions safely and within acceptable degrees of accuracy.
Performs specification, acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment. Performs acquisition and storage of data for treatment planning system as well as the x-ray and gamma ray sources and accelerators.
Maintains necessary information for their appropriate use and continual calibration status. Oversees, approves, and commissions any work done on equipment by external contractors.
Calculates shielding required for new or renovated treatment rooms, radioactive-source storage and handling facilities and brachytherapy patient rooms
