Mechanical Designer


Mechanical Designers are responsible for the mechanical engineering assessment, mechanical design concept creation and the mechanical design that is necessary to produce custom creative solutions to customers in a manufacturing and process controls driven environment.

The Mechanical Designer role and responsibilities includes:


  • Generate Conception Solutions to new problems and projects


o Generate customer requirement definitions


o Develop design concept with customer constraints and requirements


o Manage Internal design process


o Interface and interact with DSI project stakeholders and Customer project stakeholders


o Concept presentations highlighting competitive advantages and ROI advantages to customers and stakeholders.


  • Design


o Develop overall machine design concepts for custom designed equipment and systems.


o Own mechanical projects from initial concept through assembly and start up.


o Detailed machine design of custom automated tooling, fixtures, mechanisms, and robotic end of arm tooling.


o Selecting and integrating commercial components, sensors, servos, pneumatic actuators, robot arms, etc.


o Create detailed drawings and coordinate with external machine shops to fabricate machined parts, weldments, and sheet metal components.


o Proficient in performing detailed engineering analysis of custom mechanical components including robotic reach studies and component FEA.


  • Manage
  • Maintain / Update CAD Library


o Create standards and operational procedures for a mechanical design group


o Oversee build process, installation and validation of designed equipment


  • Start-up


o Coordinate validation testing following build


o Inspect and ensure build and components made to design specifications.


o Coordinate logistical efforts necessary for integration


  • Sales


o Contribute to developing conceptual design drawings, estimates and proposals


o Generate cost proposals based on conceptual development with cost analysis.


o Identify new features on existing projects that customers may want to purchase


o Identify new projects that might enhance the customer’s operations
