VCI is currently seeking an onsite full-time Mechanical Engineering Construction Manager at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center (WLA VAMC) to oversee the VA's Boiler Plant construction upgrade.


Relevant Experience


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting construction as a construction manager/inspector, program controls, and/or construction administration capacity.
  • Experience on Central Utility Plant (CUP), Central Energy Plant (CEP), work with boilers/chillers, healthcare projects/facilities is preferred.


Required Skills and Knowledge


  • Conduct and carry out portions of daily inspections of site work, building construction work; document discrepancies, code violations, improper materials or techniques in the application of materials, substandard or poor-quality workmanship; monitor schedules on various aspects of ongoing daily activities to identify and recommend mitigation of project slippage and coordinate project phasing.
  • Review Contractor's submittals for technical compliance with contract requirements, and RFls and make recommendations as to acceptance, required changes, or rejection.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and well-organized project records including but not limited to submittals, RFls, pay applications, inspection and testing records, correspondence, changes, warranties, certified payrolls, project photographs, samples, and safety observations. Inspect and verify that the contractor's as-builts are complete and accurate.
  • Conduct and/or attend weekly project meetings to monitor project status, schedule, discuss problems, and resolve issues accordingly.
  • Review the testing/inspections reports submitted by the Contractor and provide approval/dis-approval recommendations to the SRE/RE.
  • Excellent MS Office skills, physical fitness, communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to pass a background check that includes validation of at least 3 years living in the US.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, walk long distances on rough and uneven surfaces, stand for long periods, lift construction materials to access inspections, climb ladders and scaffolding, and navigate typical civil construction site obstacles.
  • Must have a valid driver�s license.
  • Must be able to complete most work during normal business with occasional night, holiday, and weekend required.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English.
  • Must be familiar with and able to use the Microsoft Suite of Services, including; Teams, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and basic Excel skills.


Education:


  • Required B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field.
