Position Title: Maintenance Technician


Division: Campus Operations; reports to the Director of Physical Plant


Term of Employment: Twelve (12) months


Compensation and Benefits:


This full-time position offers a competitive starting salary commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include participation in the state retirement system, state health insurance, optional supplemental health coverage, a deferred compensation plan, and 10 paid holidays annually.

Position Description:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a broad range of repair, maintenance, and facility upkeep tasks across Jones College’s campus. This position ensures all buildings and infrastructure are safe, functional, and supportive of the College’s instructional and operational goals. Work includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical systems, painting, and general repairs, all in accordance with state and local codes.

Under the direction of the Director of Physical Plant and in collaboration with the Facilities Services team, the Maintenance Technician:

  • Maintains a preventative maintenance schedule for campus facilities and equipment


  • Performs general maintenance and minor repairs in multiple trades, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, and HVAC


  • Diagnoses and resolves issues such as leaks, faulty fixtures, damaged structures, or malfunctioning systems


  • Conducts routine inspections of buildings and systems to identify maintenance needs


  • Uses a work order system to receive and complete service requests promptly


  • Assists with event setups, furniture moves, and seasonal tasks like storm preparation


  • Operates and maintains hand and power tools in safe working condition


  • Maintains clean and organized workspaces, storage areas, and equipment rooms


  • Collaborates with other maintenance staff and vendors on larger projects


  • Adheres to safety protocols, college policies, and building codes


  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, or respond to emergency maintenance issues after hours


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED


  • Valid driver�s license


  • At least two (2) years of experience in general building maintenance or facilities services


  • Experience in an educational or institutional setting is preferred


Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general repair


  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve a variety of facility issues


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills


  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently or with a team


  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in indoor/outdoor conditions


  • Commitment to professionalism, safety, and customer service


Work Schedule:

Full-time, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening, weekend, and emergency response assignments may be required.
