The Lead Carpenter position requires an individual capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team. The role offers competitive compensation, benefits, and onsite training. Responsibilities include supervisory responsibilities and various aspects of carpentry, as well as tasks involving drywall, painting, demolition, and lead-safe renovation practices. As Lead Carpenter, you will oversee construction and renovation projects, interpret blueprints, perform trim and frame carpentry, and ensure safety compliance. Reporting to the Foreman, you’ll supervise the carpentry team and apply your expertise in estimating, mechanical tasks, and woodworking to deliver quality results efficiently.
All required personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided, including a safety toe allowance, safety glasses, fall protection harness, hard hat, heating protection, and respirators. Additional experience or certifications in related fields, such as OSHA 10 or a hydraulics license, may result in higher pay. While carpentry is the primary focus, skills in painting, taping, mechanical maintenance, staging erection, or operation of equipment like man lifts, lulls, or skid loaders are considered beneficial.
Key knowledge includes:
· Strategic planning, resource allocation, HR modeling, leadership, production methods, and coordination.
· Construction materials, methods, and tools for building and repair.
· Machine and tool design, use, repair, and maintenance.
· Customer service processes, including needs assessment, quality standards, and satisfaction evaluation.
Must have: 8+ years minimum carpentry experience, own vehicle, valid driver’s license, basic tools.
· Review blueprints to determine construction needs and plan procedures.
· Estimate materials and labor required for jobs.
· Oversee, coordinate, and schedule carpentry team activities.
· Communicate with management, technical staff, or contractors to resolve issues.
· Synchronize work with other construction project activities.
· Order necessary materials and supplies.
· Mark and measure site locations for structures or equipment.
· Record personnel, production, and operational data.
· Assign tasks to employees and collaborate on-site for a safe, clean environment.
· Assist workers with hand tools and construction equipment.
· Train staff in methods, equipment use, safety, and company policies.
· Analyze and resolve worker or production issues; suggest improvements.
· Arrange equipment repairs as needed.
· Recommend personnel actions like promotions or hires.
· Inspect sites and equipment for compliance and progress.
· Identify and solve complex problems using related information.
· Use hand and power tools for carpentry, including framing and trim.
· Apply mechanical skills to troubleshoot construction issues.
· Ensure adherence to safety standards, including respiratory protection and hydraulics.
· A minimum of 8 years of experience in the carpentry field is required.
· Must provide your own vehicle and possess valid driver’s license.
· Candidates should be able to supply and maintain their own tools; a tool list will be provided based on experience and job title.
· The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and year-round is necessary. Physical requirements include climbing ladders, lifting at least 50 lbs., working overhead, and the ability to safely use power tools and wear respirators and other PPE.
· Proficiency in Microsoft software, project management software, and strong knowledge of construction processes, methods, materials, regulations, and safety protocols.
· Effective communication, time management, problem-solving and leadership abilities to manage teams effectively.
· Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, and exceptional documentation/data development skills.
