Description:
The Journey Level Lineworker is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems in accordance with Division standards and safety protocols. This position plays a critical role in responding to emergency outages and after-hours calls, performing fault location, system restoration, and equipment operation in a timely and professional manner. The Lineworker ensures system integrity through the inspection, operation, and troubleshooting of transformers, meters, and switching gear, while also supporting public safety through line clearance, training outreach, and accurate locates for construction projects. This role requires effective communication, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous learning and public service.
Wage: $56.01 per hour for the first six months; increases to $58.96 per hour thereafter.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
The work environment for this position is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. The position involves working near high-voltage electrical equipment and systems, often at elevated heights using bucket trucks, ladders, or climbing gear, and may require entering confined or excavated spaces. The Lineworker must operate heavy equipment and power tools, frequently lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 75 pounds. This position requires physical stamina, manual dexterity, and situational awareness to ensure safety in potentially hazardous conditions. The role includes rotational on-call duty and response to after-hours emergencies, sometimes under pressure or in low-visibility situations. Work is performed in a team-oriented environment with frequent interaction with the public and coordination with other City departments.
