Job Summary

The Interventional Radiology Nurse plays a crucial role in providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures. This position involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes during diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The nurse will utilize their clinical expertise to assess patient needs, administer medications, and assist in various procedures while maintaining a sterile environment.


Duties


  • Prepare patients for interventional procedures by conducting thorough assessments and obtaining medical histories.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications.
  • Assist physicians during interventional radiology procedures, including catheterization and other minimally invasive techniques.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation of patient care activities, including pre-procedure assessments and post-procedure evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with sterile processing protocols to minimize the risk of infection.
  • Educate patients and their families about the procedures, expected outcomes, and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans for patients undergoing urgent care or hospice palliative medicine interventions.
  • Stay updated on advancements in interventional radiology practices and participate in continuing education opportunities.


Skills


  • Proficient in medication administration and monitoring for side effects.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy relevant to interventional radiology procedures.
  • Experience with Athenahealth or similar medical office systems for documentation and patient management.
  • Ability to perform catheterization with precision and care.
  • Familiarity with sterile processing techniques to ensure a safe environment for procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective patient education and collaboration with healthcare teams.
  • Understanding of hospice palliative medicine principles to provide compassionate care to patients with serious illnesses.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
