Instrument Technician


Under moderate supervision, provide preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and calibration to process and Laboratory instrumentation. Perform installation and trains customers in the equipment uses. Document and report all test data, repairs and instrument failures. Provide excellent and efficient customer service. Must travel throughout the territory and provide technical expertise. Services provided comply with manufacturer and industry guidelines. When applicable provide recommendations on equipment and improvements. Help with the development of preventative maintenance procedures.


  • Travels to customer site to provided services (installations, maintenance or calibrations).
  • Adapts equipment and technology to serve user needs. . Provides technical support to customers related to instrumentation.
  • Document and report all repairs and product failures. . Provide equipment and improvements recommendations.
  • Executes sequence of testing and calibration program for instruments and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, standards operating procedures and other specifications.
  • Diagnoses equipment failures (breakdowns) and repairs per manufacturers guidelines.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment.
  • Analyzes and converts test data, using mathematical formulas, and reports results and proposed modifications.
  • Sets up test equipment and conducts tests on instruments and equipment.
  • Disassembles and reassembles instruments and equipment, using hand tools, and inspects instruments and equipment for defects.
  • Recommends corrective actions to the customer when needed.
  • Trains customer on how to use the equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelors degree / Associate Degree in Electronics, Instrumentation or Chemistry, Preferable two years related experience Valid drivers license


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance Analytical skills - Understands the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making


ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT


Laboratories and process areas including: warehouses, laboratories, manufacturing and outdoor areas. Driving and travel is required throughout the island. Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems. A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis. Physical effort is required. Work requires walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects. It is required that the person loads weights from 25 to 200 pounds to calibrate weighting equipment or to transport it. Job also require to stand for long periods of time, kneel, reach, walk thru narrow areas, and be exposed to cold and hot areas.
