JOB DESCRIPTION: Immigration Lawyer


Global Communication Education & Art (GCEA) is an Oakland-based community organization that serves the African immigrant population of Alameda County and the state of California. GCEA is a peer-run non-profit, founded and staffed by African immigrants, providing culturally appropriate and African language programs that include: Immigration support services, housing and shelter support, youth programs, mental health peer support and referrals, community education and advocacy, community healing, immigrant legal and application support services and arts cultural events.


The Immigration Lawyer will assist with Immigration Cases which GCEA is involved, and review the law to ensure our work falls in line with USCIS regulations. They will report to the Executive Director.


Tasks will include the following:


â— Working with GCEA Pre-litigation (GCEA team)


â— Represent immigrants at Court or USCIS Office


â— Working with partners and immigration lawyers


â— Managing legal logistics and client needs


â— Help explaining complex legal topics to other employees


â— USCIS Application support service


Candidate requirements:


â— Experience in US Immigration law


â— Great communication, negotiation, and mediation skills


â— Research skills and attention to detail


â— Cultural competence working with African immigrants


Compensation:


Negotiable. Commensurate with experience.


Job Type: Part-time


Pay: $30.00 - $60.00 per hour
