Position Summary:


The Hospice Aide & Volunteer Coordinator is a dual-role position that provides compassionate personal care services to hospice patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, while also managing the volunteer program and contributing to bereavement support and community outreach. This role requires the ability to deliver direct care, maintain patient comfort, recruit and manage volunteers, and engage with the public through marketing and outreach initiatives.


General Job Duties:


  • Understand and support the mission, vision, and policies of Essence of Life Hospice.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and responsible use of work time.
  • Check emails/voicemails regularly and meet deadlines as assigned.
  • Communicate concerns, safety issues, and patient changes appropriately.
  • Contribute to office upkeep and maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Participate in job description development and revisions.
  • Attend and complete all required training and in-service education.


Essential Job Functions:


Personal Care & Hospice Aide Responsibilities:


  • Provide personal care such as bathing, grooming, dressing, oral care, shaving, and feeding.
  • Perform light household duties including laundry, meal preparation, and light housekeeping.
  • Assist patients with mobility and exercises as directed by the therapy team.
  • Transport patients and assist with errands, as necessary.
  • Document care provided and report changes in condition to RN/Patient Care Coordinator.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment, following infection control procedures.
  • Track and request medical and care supplies as needed.


Program Coordination:


  • Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers for various hospice roles.
  • Maintain volunteer records and assignments.
  • Provide ongoing support, education, and recognition to volunteers.
  • Ensure all volunteer activities meet hospice compliance standards.


Cross-Training Requirements:


This position may assist in other departments for up to 40 hours per week, as necessary. Flexibility and willingness to support different areas of the organization is essential.


Position Requirements:


Required Skills & Experience:


  • Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) or successful completion of a formal certification/competency program.
  • At least six (6) months experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Valid driver�s license and auto insurance as required by state and agency policies.
  • Socialization skills and the ability to work with individuals experiencing grief.


Desired Skills & Experience:


  • Knowledge of hospice philosophy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in documentation and ability to follow written care plans.
  • Experience with social media and community outreach is a plus.


Language Requirements:


  • Strong English communication skills required.
  • Must be able to clearly listen, speak, write, and convey instructions and care updates.


Mathematical Requirements:


  • Basic math skills for tasks such as calculating hours, supplies, and mileage.


Reasoning Ability:


  • Ability to assess changing needs, prioritize tasks, and respond appropriately in sensitive situations.


Physical Requirements:


  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. may be necessary.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking required.
  • Must be able to sit at a computer and stand/walk for extended periods.


Travel Requirements:


  • Daily travel within the hospice�s service area is required.
  • Overnight travel is not expected.


FLSA Status:


Non-Exempt (Hourly)


Not to exceed 40 hours without supervisor approval. Eligible for benefits if working 30+ hours weekly on a regular basis.


Schedule Expectations:


Work hours fall within Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Employees may flex schedules with prior supervisor approval as long as performance expectations are met.
