Home Improvement Coordinator

Job Summary

The Tribal Home Improvement Coordinator will be responsible for performing various small home repairs and improvements for tribal members. This role also involves managing and coordinating additional projects, including subcontracting with other skilled tradespeople to complete more extensive or specialized tasks. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in home maintenance and repair, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a strong commitment to serving the tribal community.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Complete minor home repairs and improvements, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, and general maintenance;
  
• Replacing roofing (all types), replacement of windows and doors, siding and decking;
  
• Diagnose and resolve minor issues related to home systems and structures;
  
• Cabinetry fabrication, intermediate carpentry, basic plumbing and electrical systems;
  
• Ensure all work is completed to code and meets safety standards;
  
• Oversee and coordinate more extensive or specialized repair projects by hiring, managing, and supervising subcontractors;
  
• Communicates with contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure appropriate safety precautions, and quality assurance;
  
• Work with tribal citizens and supervisor to assess their needs and provide accurate, timely project scopes and home repair/improvement project estimates;
  
• Ordering and tracking materials, ensuring they arrive on time and are used efficiently;
  
• Maintain a detailed work log of completed projects and upcoming tasks;
  
• Build relationships with external contractors, suppliers, and other professionals to ensure timely and cost-effective project completion;
  
• With assistance from supervisor educates homeowners on maintenance and care to ensure the longevity and efficiency of improvements;
  
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal home repair and improvement regulations;
  
• Prepare and submit reports regarding status, budget, and timeframes to supervisor.
  
• Other related duties as assigned.
  

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with AI/AN populations.
  
• Knowledge of residential construction and repair, determination of materials, schedule and coordination of repair activities including building codes.
  
• Strong knowledge of mathematical aptitude in relation to building measurements, etc.
  
• Effective oral and written communication skills with sensitivity to the lifestyles of targeted participants.
  
• Skills in operating personal computers using a variety of computer software.
  
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
  
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws and KIC policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  
• Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  
• Ability to demonstrate advanced accuracy and thoroughness.
  
• Ability to work independently within established policies, procedures, and schedules.
  
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.

Conditions of Hire

• May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license or capable of obtaining one, as well as be insurable by KIC�s company insurance.

Minimum Education & Experience Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
  
• At least three (3) years� experience in project management, home repairs, budgeting and construction.
  
• Proof of valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  

Preferred Education & Experience

• Associates Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Construction Engineering Civil Engineering or like field.
  
• NARI Certification and/or License in specific home improvement trade preferred.
  
• Experience in detailed home improvement project management preferred and a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary teamwork.
