PROGRAM HEAD COACH/VARSITY HEAD COACH


CHEERLEADING


REPORTS TO: Athletic Director


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Coach the cheer team at all varsity boys basketball and varsity football games. Typically, there are 9 varsity football games and 22 varsity boys basketball games.
  • Coach the cheer team at all varsity football playoff games and varsity boys basketball tournament games. Currently, there are a maximum of 5 football playoff games and 8 boys basketball tournament games.
  • Coordinate with the Dance Coach and Athletic Band Director.
  • Organize, supervise, evaluate, hire, and be directly responsible for all other coaches within the program.
  • Determine coaching responsibilities for assistant and sub-varsitycoaches within the parameters of Appendix C of the MAEA Teachers� Contract.
  • Act as a positive role model and mentor on and off the playing surface at all times.
  • Attend sport-specific coaches� association meetings and coaching clinics.
  • Model, expect and nurture exceptional sportsmanship, enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students and coaches.
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times in a way that brings honor and respect to MSHS and MAPS.
  • Encourage and recruit MSHS students for program participation.
  • Coordinate and oversee fundraising for the program and comply with financial guidelines of the District and/or work with and assist in the coordination of a booster club if applicable.
  • Plan,schedule, and conduct practice sessions within parameters provided by the Athletic Director.
  • Maintain efficient communication with the Athletic Director�s Secretary as it pertains to team photos, physicals, pay-to-participate, scheduling, dismissal times, etc.
  • Schedule and organize out-of-season activities in compliance with the MHSAA.
  • Coordinate volunteers/event workers/officials for home events at the discretion of the Athletic Director.
  • Supervise the cleaning, storage, assignment, issuing and collection of equipment, locks/lockers and shower rooms; maintain a detailed inventory list of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise or arrange for supervision of students-athletes at all times.
  • Ensure student-athletes and coaches are treating all facilities with respect and care.
  • Be informed of, adhere to, uphold, and enforce, all contents, rules, and policies of the conference, the MHSAA, MSHS, MAPS, the MSHS Coaches� Handbook, and all State and Federal laws.
  • Organize and conduct parent orientation meetings and update meetings when necessary and schedule and organize program awards for the post-season banquet and host the post-season banquet/present awards.
  • Schedule MSHS facilities through the Athletic Director.
  • Attend meetings called by the Athletic Director.
  • Be visible, when possible, at home events of other sports/activities.
  • Be available, when possible, at home events of other sports to help volunteer and work.
  • Arrange for scores to be reported to the MSHS Media list and to the MHSAA�s website.
  • Develop a consistent and positive communications procedure to keep parents informed.
  • Be available for interviews and media events.
  • Ride the team bus and supervise team conduct on and off the bus.
  • Inspect equipment periodically and submit requests to the Athletic Director as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.
  • Submit record information to the Athletic Director when a school record has been broken.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or his designee.
