POSITION DESCRIPTION


GYMNASTICS ASSISTANT COACH


REPORTS TO: Athletic Director


QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Proven track record of successful coaching experience that demonstrates compassion, work ethic and integrity.


2. Demonstrated leadership skills in relationship to all coaching staff, student-athletes and administration.


3. Possess appropriate knowledge of the sport, including strength and conditioning of student-athletes.


4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, boosters, youth cheer programs and the greater community.


5. Demonstrated ability to develop a student-athlete, encompassing academics, physical development, character and skills.


6. Bachelor’s degree and a valid teaching certificate preferred.


7. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Act as a positive role model and mentor on and off the playing surface.


2. Maintain competency in rules, rule interpretations, coaching techniques and general information about all aspects of the sport.


3. Ensures a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying and intimidating language and behaviors.


4. Develop and distribute written team/program guidelines, expectations/consequences, calendars, schedules, and other information related to the program.


5. Model, expect and nurture exceptional sportsmanship, enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students and coaches.


6. Encourage and recruit students for program participation.


7. Be informed of, and adhere to, all Michigan High School Athletic Association Rules and Regulations.


8. Be informed of, and adhere to, all contents of MHSAA Coaches Handbook, MSHS Coaches Code of Ethics, MSHS Student/Parent Handbook and Code of Conduct, and MSHS Student/Parent Handbook.


9. Develop a consistent and positive communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the sport.


10. Consult with Athletic Director on disciplinary measures and eligibility issues.


11. Have on file in Athletic Director's Office inventory of equipment, award requirements and training rules.


12. Perform necessary and customary coaching duties not listed in any of the above.
