Job Description


Grounds Care Assistant (part-time 28 hours/week)


The Grounds Care Assistant will assist supervisor in assignment completion by performing tasks ranging from gardening maintenance, landscape specialties and site development in an efficient, accurate and timely manner. He/she will perform within acceptable safety procedures and guidelines and ensure equipment is kept in a safe working condition. He/she will participate in snow removal.


What you’ll do in this position:


Operate manual tools to accomplish project completion

  • Assist with miscellaneous projects

Snow Removal


  • On call to work within a team scope in assigned snow removal area to clear walks, stairs, roads, plazas, crosswalks and ADA areas, parking lots and as necessary, athletic fields, in a safe and non-destructive manner


  • Operate all equipment in a safe, effective manner to minimize the risk of injury and property damage
  • Deal with campus, MTC and Church employees/visitors in a professional manner
  • Operate and maintain a clean university vehicle
  • Perform daily pre and post trip inspections
  • Safety, Public Relations, Vehicle Maintenance and Inspections - to be followed at all times

Required


  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • 1+ years� landscaping maintenance experience
  • Ability to pass post-offer physical exam
  • Ability to work courteously with others
  • Ability to respect and adhere to safety guidelines
  • Effective record keeping abilities
  • Professional attitude, dress and adherence to the University�s Honor Code


Physical Exam and Lift Test Required


Physical Effort


Moderate - Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.


Environment


Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters .

Physical Requirements


  • Perform tasks such as lifting, bending, kneeling, raking, shoveling, and leveling for 6-8 hours per day. Closed-toe shoes and gloves are recommended for safety
  • Participate in snow removal as needed. Appropriate cold-weather gear is recommended, including a hat, gloves, boots, layered clothing, and sunscreen
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, trackhoes, and loaders as required. Eye and hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are mandatory
  • Regularly enter and exit trucks and heavy equipment, and engage in reaching, walking, and climbing. Eye and hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are recommended


Preferred


  • 3+ years� landscaping maintenance experience
  • Class A Commercial Driver�s License with 3+ years� experience
  • Good supervising, mentoring, and training skills

Pay Grade: 46


Typical Starting Pay: $16.50 to $21.00 an hour
