Job Summary

This position responsibilities include conducting routine inspections of the premises, coordinating assignments, and performing preventive maintenance tasks to uphold safety and efficiency standards. In conjunction with the Building Services Supervisor and Facilities Director, the GMW Lead will assist with set-up requests campus wide as needed and provide work direction to other general maintenance staff and assist on other assigned responsibilities.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • In conjunction with Supervisor, the General Maintenance Worker Lead will oversee the cleaning of college buildings and assist in projects so that the clean appearance and the safe, efficient operation of the campus and its grounds are maintained.
  • Provide cleaning and light custodial work to college buildings and assist in seasonal cleaning projects as assigned. Assist with set-up requests campus wide. This includes the moving of furniture, tables, staging, and other equipment, which may include some heavy lifting. Maintain a clean and safe environment on campus.
  • Lead General Maintenance Workers to perform set-up requests campus wide. Coordinate and provide directions to staff on the implementation of set up tasks and daily work routine. Activities include, but are not limited to, moving furniture, tables, staging, and other equipment, which may include some heavy lifting.
  • Provide police cleaning and light custodial work to college buildings and assist in seasonal cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Perform as a team member of the Facilities Department so that the goals of the department are met.
  • Comply with Agency safety policy so that work is accomplished in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to include assisting with set-ups as needed to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications


  • Knowledge of principles of leadwork sufficient to plan, direct, provide training for, monitor and review the work of other employees.
  • Knowledge of different types of flooring sufficient to determine proper methods of cleaning.
  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools and equipment used in cleaning sufficient to operate safely, demonstrate effectively and make minor repairs or direct repairs.
  • Ability to provide oral and written instructions sufficient to ensure that other employees understand their assignments.
  • Ability to keep records and perform clerical functions and math calculations sufficient to order supplies and complete inventories.
  • Ability to read and understand written materials such as instruction manuals, and procedures and policy information.
  • Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency. Incorporates culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities


Physical Requirements


  • Regularly engage in bending, lifting (up to 25 pounds), and maneuvering tasks.
  • Navigate uneven terrains while moving from place to place.
  • Maintain seated or standing positions for prolonged duration.
  • Frequently transport heavy equipment across campus property.


Additional Requirements


  • In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
  • Current and former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for the position.
