Position Summary


The Food Pantry Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient collection and distribution of food donations. This role involves operating a 30-foot refrigerated commercial truck, loading and unloading large quantities of food using warehouse equipment like a palette jack, and managing inventory to ensure adequate supply for daily distribution. The Driver also cultivates and maintains relationships with food donors, assists in organizing major food drives, and facilitates mobile food drops and special programs to ensure equitable food access for the community. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in commercial driving or warehouse logistics, a clean driving record, and the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.


Duties and Responsibilities


Vendor Relations & Food Procurement:


  • Drive a 30-foot refrigerated commercial truck alongside another employee or volunteer, to collect food from Second Harvest in Daytona and other vendors associated with Grocery Alliance, community donors, and all other groups/agencies.


  • Use a palette jack and related manual warehouse equipment to transport large quantities of packaged and fresh food from community warehouses into the vehicle, then relocate collected food into the agency�s dry goods warehouse, commercial refrigerator, and commercial freezer.


  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and potential food donors, utilizing a high level of customer service and professional communication.


  • Seek out new vendors and community partners to expand donation sources.


Pantry Operations & Compliance:


  • Ensure food inventory at Prevention Offices is adequate for daily distribution, as directed by Prevention Director and/or other Prevention Staff. Monitor the supply of food in the front office throughout the day, and restock as needed.
  • Ensure all required supplies, including large & medium bags, boxes, cleaning supplies, are in stock to maintain proper operations for Prevention Services.
  • Other tasks assigned by Supervisor.


Program Operations:


  • Alongside Prevention Services Director and Food Coordinator, assist in facilitating major annual food drives, like Stamp Out Hunger and Scouting for Hunger. Attend all food drive events to supervise volunteers and carry out operations.


  • Develop partnerships to identify new food drive opportunities.
  • Manage special programs such as "Xtra Credit Food for Kids," �Summer Meals Matter,†and providing additional food items to families during summer months.


  • Facilitate Mobile Food Drops, including logistics management, on-site supervision, and community engagement, to ensure efficient, respectful, and equitable food distribution to community members in need.
  • Lead food distribution events in collaboration with partner agencies, NHCWV departments, and community volunteer groups as needed.


Qualifications, Experience, and Abilities


1. Education:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.


2. Experience:


  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in warehouse operations, food logistics and transportation, commercial driving, or related fields.


3. Requirements:


  • + ServSafe certification required.


  • Successful completion of an initial and periodic drug screening.


  • Valid state driver�s license with:


  • No more than two moving vehicle violations and/or accidents within the last three years.
  • No more than three vehicle-related suspensions/reinstatements.


  • No previous DUI, reckless driving, or felony-driving convictions within the last five years.


4. Preferred Qualifications:


  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities


  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, and greater than 100 pounds using a palette jack and manual warehouse equipment.
