Description

The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides services and programs to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve safety and permanency for children and vulnerable adults; and engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision-making process.


DCBS is searching for a Family Services Office Supervisor who is driven to succeed in helping people and advance family self-sufficiency. With professionalism and integrity, our agency offers services to families to ensure safe, stable homes for the children of the Commonwealth.


The Family Services Office Supervisor is a skilled team member, providing a vital link between the children, families and local community partners. This position supervises a team of dedicated social workers and an office support assistant. The Family Service Office Supervisor serves as mentor and support for staff while providing policy and procedure guidance on a daily basis. This individual must be detail orientated and have experience communicating with the public. The employee is expected to perform at the highest quality to ensure services to the vulnerable citizens. This is a demanding position that requires maturity, self-discipline and ability to work overtime.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Act as direct supervisor to unit staff.
  • Staff cases regularly to identify protective factors and risks for the families and individuals we serve.
  • Direct staff on tasks to complete to ensure the ongoing safety and protection of children and vulnerable adults.
  • Review and evaluate casework.
  • Conduct personnel management including interviewing candidates for hiring, handling employee complaints and grievances, and recommending appropriate disciplinary action when needed.
  • Complete all phases of the employee evaluation process.
  • Identify training needs for unit staff and develop plans for training as needed through in-service training, seminars, unit meetings, and other avenues.
  • Monitor and approve staff use of leave and overtime.

  • A willingness to encourage and mentor the staff under your supervision in order to help them succeed in their positions.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: A master's degree in social work, sociology, psychology or a related field.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of professional social work experience.


Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE


Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree supplemented by two years of professional social work experience will substitute for the primary education.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Incumbents working in the job title typically perform duties in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
