Position Summary/Purpose: The Family Life Specialist play a vital role in supporting children, youth and families across Nebraska. Responsibilities may include family support, foster care assistance, visitaions and drug screening.


  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • In Home Family Services
  • Complete intakes within outlined time frame.
  • Review and submission of documentation within the outlined time frame.
  • Be available to support In-home families, be available for crisis management, and other possible phone calls 24 hours per day.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans to address skill areas needing further development to assist families in meeting their goals set forth by the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services.
  • Support In-home Family Service Cases
  • Guide and teach parents in addressing behavioral or other identified areas of improvement within the home.
  • Advocate for the family ensuring all physical and emotional needs are met.
  • Provide supervision, to ensure safety for visits between child(ren) / parents.
  • Provide transportation for children to and from visitation.
  • Assist families in locating community resources.
  • Participate in Monthly Team Meetings
  • Participate in monthly team meetings with NDHHS, Probation and service providers.
  • Facilitate communication of pertinent information between NDHHS, Probation, and other service providers.
  • Participate in weekly staffing meetings.
  • Available 24 Hours a Day and 7 Days a Week
  • Be available to respond to family needs whether via phone or in person.
  • Responsible for response times related to assigned cases. If unable to assist, communicate with supervisor and co-workers to assist.

  • Seek guidance, as necessary in handling difficult client situations and establishing priorities for day to day workloads.
  • Attend classes, seminars, and other training opportunities that will foster individual development and professional growth.
  • Provide drug screenings appropriately and send to the lab if necessary. Drug screenings include oral, urine, sweat patch, and breathalyzer.

  • Support all staff as they carry out their assigned duties.
  • Position Qualifications
  • The Family Life Specialist must have a Bachelor�s Degree in human services, such as, but not limited to, a Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, and Early Childhood Development, or a related field. Students within two semesters of completing a Bachelor�s Degree in human services or a related field.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills; ability to work as a team and independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Valid driver's license (good record)
  • Reliable transportation
  • Responsible to maintain Epworth�s vehicles upkeep ensuring the cleaning of the car, and ensure any repairs needed are reported.
  • Pass background check and drug screen.
