Overview

We are seeking a talented and innovative Engineering Manager to lead our multidisciplinary engineering team in the design and delivery of custom machine builds. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, proven leadership skills, and experience in managing complex machinery projects from concept through commissioning. He/she oversees the engineering, quoting, and project management aspects of Extrude Hone’s Capital Equipment manufacturing business, ensuring efficient and high-quality production. Responsibilities include leading teams, managing projects, implementing process improvements, and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Team Leadership - Manage and mentor a team consisting of mechanical, electrical, controls, project, and proposal engineer staff. Foster a collaborative and high- performance work environment.
  • Project Oversight - Oversee the engineering design process from requirements gathering, conceptual design, and detailed engineering to build support, commissioning, and customer delivery.
  • Technical Review - Review and approve engineering drawings, BOMs, control schemes, and calculations to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Cross-functional Coordination - Collaborate closely with project managers, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of machine builds.
  • Process Improvement - Develop and refine engineering processes, design standards, and documentation practices to improve efficiency and product quality.
  • Resource Planning - Allocate resources to projects based on timelines and workloads. Support recruitment and onboarding of new engineering talent.
  • Customer Interaction - Participate in technical discussions with customers to understand requirements, provide design input, and support machine acceptance testing.
  • Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems
  • Communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other management personnel. Needs to be able to effectively communicate instructions while leading the team to meet its goals.
  • Detail-oriented for understanding complex systems and the ability to pay attention to details, as a minor error can result in major problems
  • Organizational skills for keeping track of various budgets, employees and schedules simultaneously
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management


Knowledge and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in machine design, or industrial equipment
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience in an engineering environment
  • Strong knowledge of CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), electrical design tools, and PLC/HMI systems
  • Familiarity with safety standards (CE, UL, NFPA79, ISO 12100) and risk assessment
  • Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills


Preferred Experience:


  • Experience in a build-to-order or custom equipment environment
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies
  • Hands-on experience with machine commissioning and troubleshooting
  • ERP/MRP and engineering change management systems


Work Environment:


  • This role requires regular interaction on the shop floor and occasional travel to customer sites (up to 10%). The candidate should be comfortable in a fast-paced, technical environment with shifting priorities.
