Job Summary

Serves as subject matter expert for Employee & Labor Relations. Handles complex employee and labor relations issues for faculty, staff and/or leadership. Provides guidance on employment & labor laws and regulations; conducts investigations; and mediates disputes. Provides training and support to colleagues, faculty, staff, and leaders on employee and labor relations matters. Represents the University in contract negotiations with labor unions and/or in dispute resolution, judicial and/or magisterial proceedings. Administers collective bargaining agreements and grievances. Develops, implements, and amends employment policies and procedures, including grievance procedures. Resolves employee questions, concerns and grievances. Contributes to complex aspects of a project.


Essential Functions* Interprets and enforces collective bargaining agreements.
  • Advises management on contract negotiations, labor disputes and grievances.
  • Represents the University in arbitration cases.
  • Conducts research on employment & labor laws and regulations to ensure the University�s policies are compliant.
  • Creates and implements workplace policies to improve employee & labor relations.
  • Provides training and consultation to lower-level colleagues, supervisors and managers on employee & labor relations.
  • Maintains records of all labor agreements and related documents.
  • Works closely with management to address employees� concerns and complaints.
  • Collaborates with union representatives to address labor issues.
  • Mediates discussions between the University and employee representatives to resolve conflicts.
  • Prepares reports on employee & labor relations activities.
  • Participates in grievance procedures.
  • Provides written bargaining updates after each bargaining session for relevant stakeholders.
Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
