Position Title: Employee Benefits Account Manager


Job Classification: Non-exempt; Full Time Position


Responsible to: Director of Employee Benefits


Job Summary:


The Employee Benefits Account Manager is responsible for managing an assigned book of business while developing long-term relationships with clients. This position will also be responsible to respond to client inquiries, data processing, and identify new business opportunities among existing clients. The Employee Benefits Account Manager performs the essential functions of the position noted below, while meeting the quality and service standards developed by the agency.


Essential Functions:


  • Manages assigned book of business and client transactional needs including sales, marketing and service according to agency standards and procedures.
  • Provides technical support to Producers specifically in analyzing client needs, coverage forms and quotations.
  • Interacts with clients (in person, via telephone, or E-Mail) to discuss service needs, billing, and coverage questions.
  • Works with the Client Relationship Manager regarding negotiations with carrier underwriters to ensure proper coverage and pricing that meets the client�s needs.
  • Accompanies Producers as needed on prospects and/or client meetings.
  • Processes renewals in coordination with Producers including managing the renewal process for timely receipt of quotations and delivery of renewal proposals and policies.
  • Develops renewal applications and supporting documents for accounts identified for renewal marketing.
  • Creates Open Enrollment Materials.
  • Processes all account transactions as needed assuring that all items are handled in a timely manner, are accurate and reflect the established agency procedures. This includes, but is not limited to;
  • Policy issuance and endorsements
  • Certificates and ID cards
  • Proposals, schedules, and summaries of insurance
  • Enrollment, changes, and terminations of client employees
  • Audits, facilitating corrections as needed
  • Client/carrier correspondence
  • Coverage analysis and recommendations
  • Manages cancellation processes according to agency standards, addressing both carrier and client request as received and advising the Account Executive.
  • Assist clients in submitting claims or appeals. Identifies exposure to loss and recommends appropriate coverages in coordination with Producer.
  • Sets priorities and manages workflow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.
  • Keeps informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
  • Interacts with others effectively by utilizing good communication skills, cooperating purposefully and providing information and guidance, as needed, to achieve the business goals of the agency.
  • Actively seek ways to improve client service and communicate ideas for improved client service to superior positions.
  • Complies with departmental reporting requirements.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with others, to explain insurance issues, to receive and interpret complex information, and respond appropriately.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership skills, including motivation, goal setting, and project management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across the organization to deliver on the agency commitments to our clients
  • Knowledge of insurance products, markets, and underwriting procedures.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related programs.


Education and Experience:


  • Minimum of three (3) years commercial, employee benefits or personal lines insurance
  • Life & Health Agents License required.
  • Experience with large and complex accounts including International, contractor and manufacturing entities.
  • Thorough knowledge of the ACA and Compliance Regulations

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, listen and observe. Specifically, the employee must be able to communicate clearly on the telephone with others.
  • This position frequently communicates with clients who have inquiries about their policy, invoicing, and claims. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. This includes repeating motions that involve the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Position may require the employee to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like.
  • High stress, fast-paced environment with a high volume of work to be completed daily.
  • Limited physical effort required or exposure to physical risk. However, must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
