Position Summary:


BCPS is seeking an

Elementary Instructional Coach who will support student achievement and teacher development through high-impact instructional strategies and job-embedded coaching. The Instructional Coach will collaborate with teachers, instructional leaders, and school administrators to strengthen Tier 1 instruction, promote effective use of student data, and cultivate professional learning communities (PLCs) grounded in the Battle Creek Way. This position is designed to build the instructional capacity of teachers by supporting planning, instruction, assessment, and reflection through a collaborative and non-evaluative coaching model.


Position Responsibilities:


Instructional Coaching and Support

  • Provide individualized and team-based coaching to support high-quality instruction in alignment with district priorities.
  • Partner with teachers to co-plan and co-teach lessons, model effective instructional practices, and reflect on classroom outcomes.
  • Facilitate teacher growth through feedback cycles, goal-setting, and professional development aligned with the Guaranteed Viable Curriculum (GVC) and core instructional strategies.
  • Support PLCs in unpacking standards, designing common formative assessments, and using data to guide instruction and intervention.


Data-Driven Instruction

  • Analyze student data (formative, summative, benchmark) to inform instruction and improve learning outcomes.
  • Assist teachers in designing and implementing differentiated instruction and Tier I interventions based on student needs.
  • Support implementation of the district�s Balanced Assessment System, including STAR, NWEA MAP, and common assessments.


Collaboration and Professional Learning

  • Serve as a leader in professional development by planning and delivering training sessions aligned with district instructional frameworks (Direct Explicit Instruction, active engagement, and formative assessment).
  • Support the implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI) systems through collaboration with school-based teams.
  • Participate in district-level instructional coach collaboration and professional learning.


Instructional Leadership and School Improvement

  • Work with building principals and Bearcat Coaches to align coaching with school improvement plans, instructional needs and district goals.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collective responsibility for student success.
  • Document coaching activities through coaching cycles, weekly logs, and progress reports.
  • Participating in school and district professional learning activities and weekly PLC coaching meetings.
  • Collaborate with instructional teams to ensure coaching aligns with school improvement initiatives and supports district goals, fostering an environment of continuous growth and innovation.
  • Support teacher development in implementing culturally responsive teaching, SEL strategies, and trauma-informed practices.


Qualifications:

  • Master�s degree in Education or related field (preferred).
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated success in improving student outcomes through instructional practices.
  • Experience leading adult learning, facilitating PLCs, or serving as a coach or mentor teacher.
  • Familiarity with Michigan content standards and best practices in elementary instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional frameworks, formative assessment, and data analysis.
  • Experience working in diverse, urban school settings preferred.
  • Actively engaged in professional growth and dedicated to advancing instructional excellence.

  • Deep understanding of effective instructional strategies, student engagement, and assessment practices.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and coach teachers with empathy and professionalism.
  • Skilled in using data to inform instruction and support reflective practice.
  • Commitment to educational equity and inclusion.


Salary: $50,000 - $82,010 (potential for additional stipends)


Up to $1,500 signing bonus for NEWLY HIRED teachers, payable upon commencement of employment


Contract: 188 Days (10 months)
