Electrical Designer

Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations

  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset and be willing to tackle different tasks as they arise.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop electrical construction models and drawing sets, primarily using Revit, AutoCAD Electrical, and Plant 3D.
  • Produce 3D layouts, one-line diagrams, schematics, conduit and cable schedules, and budgetary/construction drawing packages in alignment with project and code requirements.
  • Participate in multi-discipline coordination and clash detection workflows using tools such as Navisworks and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC/BIM 360).
  • Interpret and integrate vendor data, markups, and client standards into electrical designs and documentation.
  • Assist with QA/QC reviews, redline revisions, design updates, and model export requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the development of low- and medium-voltage distribution systems, motor control, instrumentation, and grounding systems.
  • Use SKM, EasyPower, or similar software to support basic power system modeling, arc flash coordination, and short circuit studies under the guidance of engineering staff.
  • Use spreadsheet-based tools (Excel, Google Sheets, or Airtable) to support project documentation, calculations, BOMs, and device schedules.
  • Maintain flexibility to work with a variety of new and legacy design tools (CAD, BIM, or otherwise) as needed to coordinate with external engineering firms, architects, and design partners.
  • Contribute to a culture of mentorship and continuous improvement by helping other staff and refining internal workflows where appropriate.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time, with occasional trips lasting up to one week at a time, to support field verification, client coordination, and project commissioning efforts.


Desired Background and Skills


Education and Experience:


  • Associate�s or Bachelor�s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in industrial electrical design with a focus on control panels and power distribution.
  • Strong portfolio of AutoCAD Electrical and Revit projects demonstrating expertise in electrical 3D modeling and 2D drafting for industrial applications.


Technical Proficiency:


  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and Revit for developing electrical models and drawings.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, including PLC I/O wiring, relay logic, and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of electrical protection schemes, grounding requirements, and panel fabrication best practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical design issues.
  • Strong grasp of NFPA, NEC, and UL508A compliance requirements.


Communication Skills:


  • Ability to collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to develop efficient and constructible electrical designs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective documentation and project coordination.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
