Sheridan AllPrep Children’s Center (SHACC) is a vibrant, inclusive early learning community rooted in nature-based exploration, equity, and connection. We support the development of the whole child and strive to meet the needs of every learner through trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate practices.


As part of a public charter school campus, SHACC plays a vital role in supporting families and preparing children for kindergarten and beyond. Our team collaborates to create nurturing spaces where curiosity, communication, and compassion grow.


POSITION SUMMARY


The Early Childhood Lead/Co-Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for young children while building strong relationships with families and colleagues. This role requires intentional planning of developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum and active engagement in reflective, collaborative practice to support each child’s growth.


This position plays an important role in shaping the culture of SHACC and in mentoring early childhood education students participating in CTE programs.


QUALIFICATIONS (Required unless noted):


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Food Handler�s Card
  • Infant Safe Sleep Certification
  • Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect (RRCAN)
  • Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety
  • Enrollment in Oregon�s Central Background Registry
  • Ability to meet licensing and SHACC-specific onboarding requirements
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) or ECE coursework (Preferred)


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Care and Safety


  • Ensure all physical, emotional, and developmental needs of children are met
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment
  • Support children in routines such as mealtimes, toileting, rest, and transitions
  • Recognize and respond to safety concerns promptly and appropriately


Curriculum & Learning


  • Co-plan and implement a nature-based, culturally inclusive curriculum
  • Embed Oregon�s Early Learning Standards into play-based experiences
  • Observe and document children�s developmental progress
  • Adapt practices to meet diverse learning needs, including neurodivergent learners
  • Reflect on and refine teaching based on child observations, team input, and training


Relationships & Communication


  • Foster trusting, respectful relationships with children and families
  • Communicate daily updates and developmental insights to families
  • Collaborate with co-teachers, support staff, and apprentices in meaningful ways
  • Provide mentorship and observational feedback to CTE student participants


Team & Program Support


  • Contribute to SHACC�s inclusive and collaborative teaching culture
  • Attend and engage in professional development and staff meetings
  • Use digital tools (tablets, Google Workspace, Brightwheel) for communication and documentation
  • Step into leadership roles when needed, including solo teaching when ratios allow
  • Support ongoing improvement efforts and community events as needed

  • Be open to feedback, coaching, and continuous learning
  • Lift, move, and actively engage with children on their level
  • Navigate indoor and outdoor environments year-round


EXPERIENCE


  • Experience with ages 6 weeks to 5 years (preferred)
  • Experience supporting children with diverse learning and behavioral needs a plus


WORKING CONDITIONS


  • Indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Frequent kneeling, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), sitting on the floor, and standing
  • Exposure to typical classroom noise and activity levels
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours for family or community events

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:


None required.


REQUIREMENTS:


Must be 18 or older.


Wage: $16.00/hr starting wage. Based on ORO step.
