Job Description: Dispatcher


Reports To: Construction Superintendent


Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Position Summary


The Dispatcher coordinates outage reports, service complaints, and crew dispatching to minimize service interruptions, promote safety, and ensure efficient operations. This position supports Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative’s values of service, safety, integrity, community, and continuous learning.


Essential Responsibilities


  • Receive and log outage reports; dispatch crews to restore service.
  • Notify supervisors of major issues and prepare outage reports.
  • Understand and utilize system maps, substations, OCRs, direction of line feeds, and switching.
  • Operate phones, radios, and communication equipment per FCC regulations.
  • Monitor vehicle tracking systems.
  • Assist customers with service issues and explain cooperative policies.
  • Coordinate with departments and promote teamwork.
  • Participate in emergency response and planned outage communication.
  • Maintain accurate records, One-Shot data, and safety procedures.
  • Ensure customer service and public relations excellence.
  • Support and promote a culture of safety.
  • Report any irregularities in Cooperative operations to their Supervisor, Chief Operating Officer, Human Resources or CEO.
  • Maintain confidentiality of cooperative and member data.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience


  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Utility experience, especially dispatching under emergency conditions, preferred (3+ years).
  • Electrical technology training a plus.
  • Required to obtain six sigma yellow belt within 1 year of hire. (training provided internally)

Supervisory Responsibilities


None.


Authority & Accountability


Handles daily dispatch duties and makes routine decisions with limited impact. Seeks supervisory guidance for unclear policies or major decisions. Responsible for assigned equipment and office assets.


Physical Demands & Work Conditions


Mostly sedentary office work with occasional light lifting (up to 25 lbs). Normal vision/hearing required; color vision required. 100% indoor work; Monday-Friday schedule with occasional off-hours due to outages or storms. May attend training outside the service area.
