Director of Swim Lesson Development

The YMCA of Centre County’s State College Branch is hiring a Director of Swim Lesson Development to lead and grow our swim lesson programs while ensuring a safe, engaging aquatics environment for all. This full-time leadership position combines hands-on instruction with program development, staff supervision, and active involvement in aquatic operations.

• Promote and enforce safety and risk management practices across all aquatic programs
  
• Provide 30+ hours of direct service weekly to YMCA members and participants, primarily teaching private and group swim lessons (lifeguarding may also be required)
  
• Plan, promote, and oversee specialty aquatic classes, swim lessons, and certification programs-including scheduling, staff supervision, and data entry
  
• Develop lesson plans to maintain high program quality and safety
  
• Assist families with appropriate swim class placement
  
• Play an active role in pool operations, including chemical management and supply ordering
  
• Maintain accurate attendance records, time sheets, and expense reports
  
• Conduct and assist with regular staff meetings and training sessions
  
• Hold a minimum of two in-service trainings per year for swim lesson instructors to ensure consistency, discipline, and safety
  
• Hire, train, and develop swim lesson staff
  
• Support YMCA activities, including participation in the Annual Giving Campaign
  

• Bachelor�s Degree preferred (or equivalent experience in aquatic program leadership)
  
• Strong background in swim instruction and aquatic programming
  
• Experience working with children, families, and volunteers
  
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  
• Commitment to the YMCA�s core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  

• Current Lifeguard, CPR Pro, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications
  
• YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred (must be obtained within 120 days of hire)
  
• YMCA Swim Instructor and Certified Pool Operator certifications recommended
  
• Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicators License preferred (or must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
