Job Description Summary


In cooperation with District administrators and staff and under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent and in conjuncture with the Building Principal, the Assistant Principal will provide the leadership necessary to assist in the development and implementation of an educational program that promotes the educational well-being of each student. The Assistant Principal assists the Building Principal in providing school-wide leadership and uses supervisory and administrative skills to ensure the educational development of each student and faculty member.


In addition to maintaining an effective instructional program, the Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting with the supervision of the school campus, the school budget, certificated and classified staff, student activity programs, and is responsible for maintaining active relationships with the community and communicating with other educational levels.


In cooperation with other District administrators, the Director of Educational Technology will provide leadership in the development, implementation, and administration of District technological operations including, but not limited to instructional and administrative technologies, network resources, computer, audio, visual, and digital learning throughout District classrooms and programs. Additionally, in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and requirements and in collaboration with the Director of Technology, the Director of Educational Technology will be responsible for planning, purchasing, installing and maintaining physical technology systems within the District and enabling the full educational use of technology at all times.


Qualifications and Essential Skills Summary


  • Minimum of a Bachelor�s Degree in a field appropriate for this position required. Master�s Degree preferred.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Education Principal certification required, PA K-12 Principal certification preferred.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Education Instructional Technology Specialist and / or Supervisory licensure preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years� experience of professional and/or administrative experience preferred.
  • Act 33 / 34, Act 114, and Act 151 Clearances required.
  • Valid Driver�s License.
  • Have an in-depth understanding and working knowledge of the Common Ground framework regarding students, staff, programs, services, and activities.
  • Working knowledge of contemporary educational and technology integration trends, including 1:1 computing environments.
  • Able to apply critical thinking, problem-solving, and the highest standards of personal and financial integrity in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities Summary


Director of Educational Technology


  • In collaboration with the Director of Technology and Truancy Services to review, develop and implement the District�s Technology Plan and prepare the annual report to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).
  • Share joint supervisory responsibilities with the building principal and administrators over integration specialists.
  • Coordinate and provide professional development for administrators, teachers, and staff related to technology integration within educational programs and services for both school and district-wide initiatives, including utilizing effective implantation and evaluation tools.
  • Prepare and oversee the educational technology department�s budgetary planning in order to support the District�s technology plan, including but not limited to, the purchase and acquisition of services, hardware and software.
  • Conduct periodic and on-going staff training for new applications or advanced technology processes.
  • Provide guidance and support for integrating technology into the K - 8 curriculum.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation of software and internet-based resources evaluation process so that all students have access to technology-based programs that are aligned with curricular goals.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Director of Curriculum in the design of curriculum that integrates the use of instructional technology into the teaching and learning environment that meets national and statewide standards for educational technology in learner-centered environments.
  • Guide the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the activities needed to support the Modern Teacher initiative.
  • Guide and support school personnel to design strategies for the effective use of resources to integrate technology into teaching and learning and create 21st century learning environments.
  • Ensure the quality and equitability of the instruction and opportunities available to all students.
  • Research and conduct �Best Practice†technology instruction using the SAMR model as an instructional guide.


Assistant Principal


  • Assist the Building Principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Serve as Acting Principal in the absence of the Building Principal.
  • Participate in parent conferences, teacher and individual student problems.
  • Attend special events held to recognize student achievement, and attend after-school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events.
  • Make recommendations concerning the school�s administration and instruction.
  • Conduct observations and evaluations of the teaching staff as an instructional leader of the school. Develops plan(s) of improvement for teachers in need of additional guidance.
  • As a member of the administrative team, make recommendations on matters for improvement and enhancement of the teaching / learning conditions of the faculty, staff and students.
  • Interact daily with students, faculty, staff and parents in matters of discipline, class attendance, personal and social adjustment, and general interaction to meet the objective of providing an environment conducive to learning.
  • Assist with the direction of assembly programs (i.e. PTA assemblies, pep rallies, competition assemblies, etc.)
  • Assist as needed with preparing and monitoring the respective building education budget; provide input to the business office in the preparation of the annual budget; and administers the department budget by monitoring expenditures and recommending budget adjustments based on budgetary constraints.
  • In conjunction with the Business Manager, assist as needed to ensure proper accounting of purchase requests and expenditures based on District financial protocols for accountability and budgeting.
  • Assist with the supervision and evaluation of extracurricular and / or enrichment programs.
  • Assist with the organization and supervision / maintenance of all required building records and reports.
  • Assist with the implementation and observance of all relevant state rules and regulations and Board policies and regulations by the school�s staff and students.
  • Assist with the development, determination and appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program.
  • Assist with the scheduling of classes within established guidelines to meet students� needs.


High School Liaison


  • Coordinate communication with representatives from East Allegheny and West Mifflin Area School Districts and responsible District departments such as the health office, guidance office, special education, transportation and the enrollment office.
  • Annually organize eighth grade student visits and transportation to East Allegheny and West Mifflin Area School Districts.
  • Coordinate secondary registration events for eighth grade students and parents / guardians. Follow up with parents / guardians as needed.
  • Prepare and disseminate relevant communications related to the transition from eighth grade to ninth grade to necessary stakeholders.

Reports directly to the Superintendent or Designee


Terms of Employment


12-months per year. Salary, work schedule, evaluation and other conditions of employment are in accordance with current DCSD Act 93 Administrative Agreement.
