General Summary


Under the direction of the Executive Director, Access & Crisis Services, the Director, Crisis Services is responsible for providing 24-hour management of LifeWays’ array of crisis services that include: pre-screening for inpatient placement, crisis intervention and diversion, crisis hotline, 23-hour living room, mobile crisis services, Intensive Crisis Stabilization Services (ICSS) for children, and crisis residential services. The Director, Crisis Services provides effective leadership to the clinical staff, maintains knowledge of the organization, contract and accreditation requirements and standards, and directs all activities in accordance with State and Federal regulations while incorporating LifeWays’ mission, vision and values into all decision-making processes.


Essential Functions


  • Responsible for day-to-day supervision, counseling, and discipline of direct staff according to procedure. Also responsible for performance evaluations, initial 90-day period for (direct report) new employees and annual thereafter.
  • Supervises all department supervisors/direct reports and maintains supervisory authority over personnel assigned to the departments.
  • Oversight of treatment team processes for individuals receiving inpatient treatment, participates in discharge planning, and coordinates aftercare appointments, including same-day Intake Assessments for Henry Ford Jackson, Hillsdale Hospital, and LifeWays� Crisis Residential Unit for those not currently open to services.
  • Supervises department personnel responsible to develop, implement, and maintain tracking mechanisms associated with inpatient admission and coordination of discharge planning, as well as Crisis Residential Unit admission and coordination of discharge planning.
  • Oversight of staff coordination with hospital and crisis residential leadership for all post-Acute Services coordinated needs, to include access to services, supports, and care.
  • Oversight of recidivism case review.
  • Manages programs within allocated budgetary parameters and collaborates in the development of the fiscal budget.

  • Coordinates with other leaders which includes all program/department directors/supervisors and the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Meets strategic planning, goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the department.
  • Provides input on department policies and procedures on an ongoing basis.
  • Provides oversight of departmental processes in conjunction with Executive Director
  • Ensures programs are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and keeps informed about changes in laws and regulations.
  • Collects, analyzes, and maintains data on program operations, staff performance, and key results.
  • Provides ongoing review of effectiveness, efficiency, satisfaction, and accessibility of program.
  • Manages critical crisis situations that exceed the scope of staff and supervisors.
  • Monitors capacity, utilization, and staffing levels to provide ongoing quality care to consumers.
  • Ensures staff competency and uniformity through regular supervision and team meetings.
  • Responsible for ensuring documentation of all information regarding consumer treatment in electronic medical record and reviewing documentation of supervised staff to ensure accuracy, timelessness, and clinical appropriateness.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)


Knowledge


  • Knowledge of Michigan�s community mental health (CMH) system; minimum of three years� experience working with CMH populations.
  • Knowledge of current practices, methods, and procedures in the delivery of behavioral health services, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Knowledge of credentialing requirements to perform duties within departments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all regulations, contract requirements, standards applicable to departments.
  • Working knowledge of resources, including but not limited to: Diagnostic Criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), Medicaid Provider Manual, LifeWays Provider Manual, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), International Classification of Diseases (ICD), LifeWays Policies and Procedures, LifeWays Process Alerts, Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Physicians� Desk Reference (PDR), and departmental processes.


Skills


  • Excellent interpersonal skills to include the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts and build teams.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Excellent time management skills in a setting with potential frequent interruptions; ability to coordinate multiple concurrent projects and perform tasks in an organized and timely manner, with attention to detail.


  • Experience with basic data analytics and proficiency/intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) and other relatable software (Power BI, etc.); and internet applications, including Electronic Medical Record. Ability to navigate LifeWays Intranet.

  • Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC)
  • Certification in Licensing Supervision training course which includes standards of practice.
  • Board certified in respective field of counseling through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), or completion of Clinical Advanced Practice Specialty Credentials identified through National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
