The Deputy Coroner is responsible for determining the manner and cause of death within the jurisdiction of Anderson County per South Carolina State Statue definitions. The Deputy Coroner is appointed at the discretion of the Coroner. The Deputy Coroner may do and perform any or all of the duties pertaining to the Office of the Coroner.
The Deputy Coroner is a sworn officer and is authorized to carry firearms, operate emergency vehicles, and conduct investigations in accordance with South Carolina Law.
Requirements:
Must be 21 before appointment.
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Paramedic, EMT, Nurse, Forensic Specialist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Law Enforcement Officer preferred
Medicolegal Death Investigation Training, Medical Training, Pharmacology, Photographer, Evidence Preservation, etc preferred or any equivalent combination or training and experience to meet the qualification of the position
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations and Additional Qualifications:
American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (D-ABMDI) Certification required within three (3) years of appointment
Current South Carolina Driver�s License
Must Complete the South Carolina Basic Coroners Academy within one (1) year of appointment
Must obtain certification at a minimum as an Emergency Medical Technician within one (1) year of appointment
Must meet annual Firearms Qualifications
Must meet requirements for NCIC Certification
Must meet annual Vehicle Operations Qualifications
Additional certification may be added at the discretion of the Coroner
