The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission Pipeline Safety Bureau:


  • Enforces federal and state pipeline safety regulations in order to provide for the safe operation of natural gas and hazardous liquid facilities;
  • investigates intrastate pipeline incidents and accidents that take place in New Mexico;
  • enforces the State Excavation Damage Prevention Law; and
  • is responsible for licensing crude oil, natural gas, and oil and gas product pipelines.

Why does the job exist?


The Pipeline Safety Bureau is expanding and is in the process of hiring additional Damage Prevention staff who will contribute towards a more effective damage prevention program by enabling the PSB to continue to carry out all the elements of damage prevention throughout the entire State including under served communities.


This position will be assigned to a specific geographic location responsible for all damage prevention related activities including daily deployment to the field.


How does it get done?


  • Enforce New Mexico Excavation Law by investigating 3rd party damage reports, emergency/warning dig tickets, participating in wide area conferences, and investigating complaints for Northwest part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan area.
  • Conduct 3rd party damage and Excavation Law compliance investigations in sufficient detail to substantiate evidence of violations or compliance.
  • Determine alleged violator and related violations for all 3rd party damages.

Minimum Qualification


High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required experience.


Employment Requirements


Must have or be able to obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate. A valid driver's license and background check are required prior to hire.


Working Conditions


In state and out of state travel. Extensive work outside in the field during construction activities. Extensive computer and telephone usage.
