Bishop Stang High School seeks a reliable and dedicated individual to join our team as a custodian in the evenings. As a custodian, you will play a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and overall maintenance of our high school facility. You will work collaboratively with the school staff to create a clean and conducive environment for students, teachers, and visitors.

Responsibilities:


1. Cleaning and Maintenance: Perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing various areas such as classrooms, restrooms, offices, corridors, and common areas. Keep the premises clean, tidy, and free of litter. Monitor and replenish supplies as necessary.


2. Facility Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections to identify and report any maintenance or repair needs promptly. This may include replacing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, unclogging drains, repairing damaged furniture, and addressing other general maintenance tasks.


3. Safety and Security: Ensure that all safety protocols and regulations are followed, including proper storage and disposal of cleaning chemicals. Monitor the premises for any safety hazards, such as spills or debris, and promptly address or report them. Check all locks and windows to secure the building and turn out lights in the evening.


4. Event Support: Assist with the setup and breakdown of school events, including classrooms, auditorium, gymnasium, and other designated areas. Arrange furniture, equipment, and materials as required, and ensure that spaces are restored to their original condition after events.


5. Communication and Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with school staff, administrators, and fellow custodians to address any specific cleaning or maintenance needs. Collaborate with the team to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks. Respond promptly to work orders or requests from staff members.


6. Health and Sanitation: Follow established protocols for cleaning and disinfecting in accordance with health and safety guidelines, especially during situations such as flu outbreaks or other contagious illnesses. Pay attention to high-touch surfaces and use appropriate cleaning agents to prevent the spread of germs.


7. Groundskeeping: Assist in maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and safety of outdoor grounds. Duties include mowing lawns, trimming trees and shrubs, watering plants, removing trash and debris, and performing basic landscaping and maintenance tasks. May operate equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers. Ensures outdoor areas are well-kept year-round.


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.


  • Previous experience in custodial or janitorial work preferred.


  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and supplies.


  • Familiarity with basic maintenance tasks and tools.


  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently.


  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.


  • Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, bending, and operating cleaning equipment.


  • Flexibility to work weekend shifts for special events or emergency situations.
