Overview of Role


The CEO is responsible for the delivery of quality healthcare services and senior housing through effective leadership of services, operations, finances, and human resources of Good Neighbor Society (GNS), a private nonprofit faith based organization located in Manchester, Iowa. In Collaboration with the board and leadership team, he/she develops and articulates strategic direction to position GNS for future sustainability and challenges.


Resident Rights


  • Knows and respects patient rights.
  • Ensures all protected health information is kept confidential.
  • Reports all complaints made by patients through established procedures.
  • Reports all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of patient properly.


Safety and Sanitation


  • Follows established safety policies and procedures.
  • Observes safety needs of patient as indicated in care plan.
  • Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and properly trained to use.
  • Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actual situations.


Staff Development


  • Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes, and meetings, including safety committee.
  • Participates in QAA process.


CEO Administration Responsibilities


  • Assists the board in setting the strategic direction for GNS. This includes continuing to work on a long-range strategic vision that has clearly definable goals and measurable objectives.
  • Evaluates and recommends to the Board acquisition, development and expansion of desirable land, equipment, and services.
  • Maintains compliance with corporate Internal Audit Requirements
  • Installs and manages facility procedures consistent with GNS needs.
  • Oversees completion of forms, reports, etc. including State licensure reports, monthly financial reports, Public Health, or Department of Labor surveys, plans of correction, responses to corporate requests, replies to patients� council, and others as needed.
  • Reviews and signs accounting records, payroll, incident/accident reports, resident fund reconciliation and resident funds approval; Provides facility related data/information responsive to GNS needs.


CEO Provision of Services Responsibilities


  • Provides leadership, direction, and administration of all aspects of GNS activities to ensure compliance with regulations governing the nursing home and other lines of business.
  • Directs and evaluates Quality Assurance programs for GNS to ensure high quality care is provided.
  • Intervenes as appropriate in potentially threatening situations and follows-up with staff after crisis have been resolved.
  • Oversees preparations for licensure certification surveys.


CEO Marketing/Public Relations Responsibilities


  • Represents GNS in its relationships with other health organizations, government agencies, third party payers, and other organizations and groups to strengthen services provided.
  • Represents GNS in the community through active engagement in community organizations and local media to strengthen image.
  • Oversees Marketing and promotional activities of GNS.


CEO Human Resource Management/Board Education Responsibilities


  • Manages employees with direct reports and a leadership teams. Establishes performance objectives and allocates compensation through the budget process to carry out GNS objectives. Provides leadership and mentoring for the leadership team but is also available to all staff members. Lead by example.
  • Manages the performance management process within the facility to ensure that all employees are properly evaluated for their work performance.
  • Ensures all supervisors are trained in and implement Good Neighbor Society procedures including, but not limited to, Personnel Policy Manual, Caring Leadership Handbook, and Employee Handbook.
  • Provides new board member education, development opportunities for all board members, and provide regular education to enhance board skills and knowledge.


CEO Financial Management Responsibilities


  • Prepares annual budget as part of the strategic plan. Budget is developed with leadership team and Board finance committee and then approved by full board.
  • Manages final approved budget and the strategic plan by meeting established census, revenue, and expense targets.
  • Provides or delegates monthly financial reporting and yearly audits to the board. Advises the board to any major variances to budget.
  • Develops within the strategic plan a five-year capital expenditure priority list and anything purchased outside of the list on an annual basis will require board approval.


Education, Experience, Abilities


  • Bachelor�s degree in nursing home administration or related field required; master�s degree preferred; Licensed as required by state law.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience with long-term care and/or health care services required.
  • Leadership experience required.
  • Demonstrated skill in strategic, budgeting and facility planning and implementation of plan.
  • Exhibits and models personal qualities and skills that reflect high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity.
  • Demonstrates specific skills in areas of organizational development, communication, conflict resolution, and diplomacy.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively relate to people at all levels from residents, employees, leadership team, and board.
  • A demonstrated record of success in all aspects of positive employee relations.
  • Possesses high level technology abilities to utilize existing programs as well as evaluate future technology.
