Job brief


We are looking for a qualified carpenter to join our team. The Carpenter will be responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, and wallboard. Your job will involve working in diverse settings to produce steady and functional infrastructure and products.


The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials. Working with little supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential. Must have strong communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills and be able to direct, teach, and explain technical skills used on the jobsite.


The goal is to foster a positive safety culture among the team and contribute to the construction and maintenance of strong and long-lasting buildings and products.


Responsibilities


  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
  • Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements
  • Build window frames, doors, staircases and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items
  • Lay out floorings, roofings or drywalls ensuring they are leveled and compatible
  • Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance
  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures
  • Complete the construction projects on time and on budget in all facets within your control
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Mentor and train junior and lateral team members in skills to improve the team
  • Maintain accountability of company tools and equipment
  • Maintain a clean and organized work trailer
  • Maintain an inventory of consumable items (nails, screws, saw blades, etc.)
  • Delegate work appropriately to help grow team members and complete tasks
  • Forecast needs for materials and consumable items multiple days in advance when reasonably possible.


Requirements and skills


  • Proven experience as carpenter
  • Read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
  • Ability to reference between the above documents to understand and communicate the construction process
  • Read and interpret wall panel drawings
  • Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
  • Good understanding of basic math
  • Ability to perform high level carpentry efficiently and effectively on-site
  • Read and understand the bT Construction Framing- Inspection Checklist and be able to discern what items on the checklist apply to that specific job.


Job Type: Full-time


Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
