GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Barn Manager is responsible for the daily operations and oversight of the horse boarding program at Highlander Ranch. This includes monitoring the health and well-being of all boarded horses, supervising horse boarding staff, managing feed and care schedules, and maintaining clean and safe facilities. The Barn Manager serves as the first point of contact for all boarders regarding horse care or facility issues, while coordinating with and escalating concerns to the Director of Ranch Operations when needed. This position receives general direction from the Director of Ranch Operations and exercises no supervision.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position. SELECTION CRITERIA:The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:Knowledge of: 1. Equine and other livestock behavior, nutrition, health maintenance, common illnesses and injuries, and proper care practices; 2. Equine facility management, including pasture and stall maintenance; 3. Emergency protocols for horse health, weather related events, and facility issues; 4. Safe practices in equine and livestock care; 5. Supervision and successful management of barn staff; 6. Standards for boarding operations, including Certified Horsemanship Association or equivalent practices; Skills in: 7. Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; 8. Leading, training, and overseeing the work of horse boarding staff, ensuring consistency and quality in care; 9. Maintaining accurate logs for feedings, medications, and other horse care needs in accordance with CHA or equivalent industry standards related to horse boarding and barn management; Ability to: 10. Establish and maintain collaborative, cooperative relationships with the Director of Ranch Operations, staff, clients, and the public to support overall ranch goals and ensure boarder satisfaction; 11. Maintain pastures and paddocks, including performing emergency repairs to fencing such as hot wire or temporary panels; 12. Loading and unloading horses, hooking up gooseneck trailers, safely pulling both gooseneck and conventional trailers, and inspecting trailers for safety issues; 13. Handle livestock and other general health related issues; 14. Assess equine health and behavior and make care recommendations to the horse owner; 15. Effectively operate college systems for managing records, processing billing, and facilitating communication; WORKING CONDITIONS:

Restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs.), some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Unpleasant Exposure Minor Hazard: Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity are limited.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Education: High School diploma or GED with relevant training and experience in equine care and ranch operationsExperience: More than two years of barn or horse management work experienceSpecial Requirement: Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under college automobile policy with an ability to maintain insurability PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in equine science or closely related field
