Position Summary:


We are seeking an

Electrical Engineer to support Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnection processes for residential and commercial projects. The successful candidate will work closely with solar developers, internal engineering teams, and utility stakeholders to process and review interconnection applications and ensure compliance with the Small Generator Interconnection Procedure (SGIP). This hybrid role is based in Long Island, NY, and requires candidates to be within the tri-state area.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Review and process distribution interconnection applications (0-10 MW) for residential and commercial solar and battery storage systems.
  • Conduct technical screenings of applications under SGIP guidelines.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for customer inquiries, application deficiencies, and portal issues.
  • Generate and manage key reporting metrics (e.g., <50kW, >50kW, Inventory reports).
  • Coordinate and participate in on-site witness testing of DER systems connected to the LIPA distribution system (Long Island and Rockaways).
  • Lead field meetings with interconnection customers and coordinate with contractors on net meter violations.
  • Maintain and track project financials and accounting in SAP, collaborating with the Cost Engineer and Cost Analyst.
  • Monitor progress of contractors, evaluate invoices, and track change orders against budgets and field progress.
  • Represent the utility in technical and policy forums (e.g., DPS Interconnection Forums).
  • Ensure compliance with SGIP tariffs and operating instructions for DER integration.
  • Support high-level inquiries and coordination between internal departments and external developers.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor�s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience (utility or power sector preferred).
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage 15-20 concurrent projects.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with calculations, technical data, and financial reports.
  • Experience using Excel (pivot tables, data tracking, etc.) and other data tools.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to coordinate with large developers and internal technical teams.
  • Must be within the tri-state area and available to travel to Long Island for site visits (~10% of the time).


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of electrical utility systems including AC/DC theory, protection & control equipment, transformers.
  • Prior experience in Distributed Energy Resource (DER) integration or interconnection processes.
  • Familiarity with SGIP Tariffs and renewable energy policy.
  • Background in utility-scale power systems engineering, especially in transmission or distribution roles.
  • Experience working with SAP, Access, and financial tracking tools.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
