Overview:


The Associate Director of Reporting and Data Architecture (AD RDA) is responsible for working with the Deputy Chief Information Officer to set the reporting strategy and vision and for leading the day-to-day operations of the RDA team. As a working AD, they will directly develop reporting solutions as well as oversee data-architecture-related initiatives. The AD will serve as a champion and advocate for the strategic use of data college-wide, and the people, processes, and technology needed to support the use of data in the realization of Denison’s mission. They are expected to contribute positively to building a high-performing team and promoting a culture of collaboration, transparency, empathy, innovation, and accountability within ITS.


Essential Job Functions :


Supervision:


Manage the Reporting team, including full-time staff, student assistants, and temporary contractors as needed.


Collaborate with other ITS Directors and Associate Directors, and foster positive, cooperative relationships with data stewards across the college.


Oversee the RDA project portfolio and lead major reporting and data initiatives.


Reporting:


Develop and maintain the back-end processes that support ongoing development of reports and dashboards within the campus reporting environment.


Stay current with reporting and data visualization trends in higher education and industry to inform Denison’s progress in this space.


Support products using Workday and Prism reporting architecture, Ellucian’s ODS data models, advanced query capabilities, dashboards, and performance metrics.


Strategy:


In partnership with the Deputy CIO and executive data strategy team, help define a strategy for the ODM team that aligns with both University and ITS goals.


Serve as the primary liaison to the Associate Director of Data Governance for architecture and IT interface matters.


Stay informed about relevant emerging technologies, update ITS leadership on significant developments, and recommend opportunities for adoption.


Provide regular feedback to the Deputy CIO, promoting continuous improvement, proactive service, and strong relationships across campus.


Analysis:


Collaborate with departments to assess reporting, integration, and data visualization needs; implement effective solutions using tools like Cognos.


Design, maintain, and adapt data and metadata models to support user requirements, ensuring data integrity and resolving anomalies.


Use Oracle data warehouse tools to maintain consistency between the Banner ERP system and the Operational Data Store (ODS).


Train users on reporting tools, dashboards, performance metrics, and core data concepts, promoting best practices across campus.


Advocate for baseline vendor functionality to reduce custom development; investigate and troubleshoot data and reporting issues in collaboration with users.


Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelors degree (or commensurate experience)


Must be familiar with database concepts, SQL, and online software applications. 5 years of database and reporting experience including project leadership.


Experience and conceptual understanding of the project life cycle process. Ability to handle multiple tasks under the pressure of tight deadlines; ability to work and learn independently; good communication skills; apply sound project management processes toward all tasks; display initiative and self-motivation.


1+ year supervisory experience


Preferred Qualifications :


Masters degree


Experience working in IT at an institution of higher education; WorkDay experience; experience in business intelligence, analysis, programming, and Ellucian Banner ERP.


Programming experience in SQL/PL-SQL, Linux scripting, Oracle and data warehousing.


Tableau, Cognos tool sets, Dashboards, and Oracle relational database management.


3+ years of supervisory experience.
