Purpose of Job:


Responsible for assisting the principal with leadership, direction, supervision, operations, and accountability of the academic and non-academic duties of school personnel, providing for the proper and efficient operation of school facilities and programs.

  • Serve as an instructional leader by monitoring implementation of professional development and instructional efforts in accordance with the school improvement plan, school policies, and procedures
  • Promote an effective, safe, alternative learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds to prepare students for graduation and transition to college and/or careers beyond graduation
  • Implement and monitor behavioral expectations and policies including monitoring attendance trends and overseeing truancy interventions; address safety and welfare issues by holding meetings with parents, investigating incidents, documenting findings, contacting proper authorities and conforming to legal requirements and regulations
  • Create partnerships with parents and community
  • Collect and analyze student assessment data that aid in student recruiting, retention, and graduation
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate school projects, curriculum, achievement reporting, events, activities, and initiatives
  • Manage site budgets according to GOAL�s financial policies and procedures
  • Maintain clear communications and good working relationships with all staff members
  • Help develop and maintain effective and consistent policies and procedures for students, parents, and employees, and ensure their implementation (e.g., field trip procedures, enrollment procedures)
  • Supervise employees including serving as an instructional leader assigning and directing work, interviewing, evaluating performance, disciplining and resolving issues
  • Maintain a general understanding of the provisions of laws relating to charter schools
  • Maintain a high level of professional communication (both verbally and in writing) with other GOAL staff, students, and parents to deliver program information and address individual student needs
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, staff, and community
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Must reside in Colorado
  • Must have a valid driver�s license


Education:


  • Bachelor�s degree in education, management, or a similar field required. Master�s degree preferred
  • Valid Colorado Principal's License required


Experience:


  • Two years of experience as a secondary teacher, secondary counselor, or equivalent required
  • Two years of experience working online and/or with at risk youth preferred
  • Three years of progressively responsible leadership experience working in a school required
  • Three years of supervisory experience preferred


Or other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:


  • Advanced knowledge of school leadership within an online school
  • Advanced oral and written communication, public relations, instruction, curriculum, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, facilitation, management, decision making, computer, and organizational skills. Proven ability to use sound judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters
  • Ability to work well with others and to promote a team environment
  • Knowledge of and ability to oversee standardized testing procedures
  • Advanced abilities working with at-risk students, web-based instructional approaches, and/or GED or other similar alternative educational programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time-management, verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable working with technology. Able to apply problem solving skills competently and persistently towards technology issues
  • Ability to serve on student-centered teams and participate in a collaborative decision-making process
  • Well-versed in conflict resolution skills. Ability to mediate conflicts (e.g., between students, staff, parents, or community members) while promoting the core values of GOAL effectively among all stakeholders.
  • Understands the benefits of continuous learning and takes personal responsibility for professional development.
