Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Maintenance reports directly to the Director of Maintenance and will be based at one of Blue Hawaiian’s four major locations. This position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the maintenance department and ensuring the continued airworthiness of the aircraft. The Assistant Director will work in close collaboration with the Director of Maintenance, providing leadership, oversight of base teams, training, scheduling, and team development. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the safety and reliability of Blue Hawaiian Helicopters’ fleet by ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, implementing sound maintenance practices, and continuously refining operational processes. This role must possess broad industry knowledge and a thorough understanding of FAA regulations, ensuring full compliance with FAR/FAA Parts 133, 135, and 145, as well as all applicable company policies and federal requirements.

The classification of this position is broad and assigned specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:* Support each base by managing daily operations, ensuring airworthiness, regulatory compliance, training, team development, and continuous quality management, all in alignment with company goals, third-party audits, and FAA regulations.

• Maintain compliance with FAA regulations, company policies, and inspection/compliance standards; conduct internal and external facility audits as needed; and support the specific duties outlined for the Director of Maintenance in the FAA-approved Operations Manual and applicable FARs.
  
• Oversee maintenance management personnel training requirements and contribute to the planning, scheduling, and execution of all required training programs to ensure team competency and compliance.
  
• Ensure adequate inspection aids, special tools, and test equipment are available, properly inspected, maintained, and calibrated; oversee the company�s tool control and tool calibration programs.
  
• Ensure accurate and timely execution of all required inspection records, reports, and forms; oversee incoming material inspections to confirm airworthiness before installation; ensure vendor quality standards are met.
  
• Track and ensure compliance for all required inspections, TBO, and life-limited components; conduct weight and balance analyses using approved maintenance manuals; and provide the Blue Hawaiian leadership team with weekly updates on aircraft availability, service delays, out-of-service status, and monthly budget tracking.
  
• Ensure all required inspections, TBO and life limited components/parts are tracked on company aircraft. Ensure receiving inspection requirements are complied with for new and continued-serviced parts.
  
• Update Blue Hawaiian Leadership team weekly with aircraft availability, delays, out of service aircraft and monthly budget tracking.
  
• Ensure aircraft records, maintenance data, and flight data are maintained in accordance with FAA regulations and company policies. Responsible for managing and maintaining AAIP, MEL�s, and other FAA regulatory documentation as necessary. Ensure periodic aircraft records audits, base audits and systems audits are performed as required to ensure completeness and accuracy
  
• Ensure aircraft and engine maintenance logs and maintenance records are screened and monitored to ensure compliance with current regulations, manufacturer maintenance programs, Airworthiness Directives etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees in the Maintenance department. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. For Exempt Managers: Managers that carry out these responsibilities for two or more employees will have significant input in hiring and termination decisions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience* Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) from four-year college or university and 10 or more years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Aircraft avionics experience involving the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of avionics systems
  
• Minimum of 10 years� experience maintaining helicopters and/or managing maintenance operations for F.A.R. Part 133/135 operators and or F.A.R. Part 145 Repair Stations.
  
• 6 years� experience as an aircraft maintenance manager/supervisor for aircraft operated under FAA Part 133/135 with experience in FAA AAIP, CAMP and MEL programs preferred
  
• 5 years of experience on Airbus Helicopter (formerly Eurocopter) and Turbomeca Arriel engines, experience overseeing multiple aircraft and maintenance technicians, experience in Part 145 operations and regulations strongly preferred

• RAMCO Software experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations* Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Power plant (A&P) certificate required.

• Inspector Authorization (IA) certificate required.
