Position Summary:


The Assistant Bookkeeper is responsible for the accurate and timely recording of daily financial transactions to support the organization's accounting operations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of financial records by ensuring that all transactions are properly documented, categorized, and reconciled. The Assistant Bookkeeper works closely with the Director of Finance and Accounting and other members of the finance team to process invoices and payments, assist with account reconciliations, and manage ledgers. The ability to communicate effectively with team members is essential, as is a commitment to confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive financial information.


The ideal candidate is a dependable and detail-driven individual with a foundational understanding of accounting principles and practices. They are comfortable working with numbers on a daily basis and have experience using accounting software to record transactions efficiently and accurately. This individual thrives in a structured environment and takes pride in maintaining accurate financial records. They are proactive in identifying discrepancies, organized in managing documentation, and capable of handling repetitive tasks with consistency and care.


Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities:


  • Assist in recording daily financial transactions in accounting software.
  • Assist with bank and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with invoice processing and payment tracking.
  • Maintain organized records of invoices, receipts, and other financial documents.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and procedures.
  • Respond to internal inquiries regarding financial transactions and documentation.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to finance and accounting as needed.

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses Required:


Required


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver�s license.
  • Criminal Background Checks and Drug Testing will be required for this position.


Preferred


  • Associate degree or corresponding coursework in accounting, finance, or similar field of study.
  • Experience in bookkeeping or accounting support through education, internships, or related work history.
  • Experience using accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero).

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.
