POSITION SUMMARYThe Animal Resource Manager maintains oversight of the biomedical swine research herd located in Wisconsin. Additionally, this individual will manage the animal husbandry team on site. Animal Resource Manager is responsible for motivation, training, development, and conduct of the Animal care staff which operates 7 days a week 365 days a year. This role is responsible for reporting to leadership on the status as well as the future needs of the herd (and staff) to support their research goals. The Resource Manager will work closely and collaborate with the attending veterinarian, Process Development team, Donor Resource Manager, Neonatal Coordinator, and facility operations teams to ensure program needs are met while providing excellent animal care, optimized embryo production and working on a breeding strategy. Adherence to strict biosecurity practices is a must.
Herd management:* Oversight of herd breeding program records and allocation of animals from this pool for assisted reproductive technology programs
Animal care program leadership:* Work in close partnership with facility personnel to ensure basic eGenesis program facility and husbandry needs are met
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, lift files and operate a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust to focus. The employee frequently is required to lift laboratory supplies and equipment within the daily routine. Occasionally the employee may be required to handle and work with large animals.
This job operates in multiple environments, including office, laboratory, and animal husbandry environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This job may require the use of hazardous chemicals, conduct sample collection on livestock and operate in a dusty environment.
