JOB SUMMARY

The AEC Mentor provides guidance and support to adult learners with the goal of promoting participant academic and personal growth

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES* Greet students as they enter AEC
  • Take and record class attendance and arrival times
  • Personally and promptly contact each student who is absent for class
  • Share knowledge and advice to help students develop problem-solving skills and make decisions. Suggest community resources that may be helpful
  • Provide constructive feedback to help students improve academic and problem-solving skills
  • Track student progress and help them stay focused on their goals
  • Maintain a flexible schedule and office hours in order to accommodate adult-learner schedules
  • Unlock and lock classrooms whenever school is in session
  • Complete minor office work as assigned
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Become familiar with and follow expectations outlined in the AEC Program Manual
  • Serve as a point of contact for participants, assisting with inquiries, confirming appointments, and providing information on program schedules and requirements.
  • Support participant engagement by helping with reminders, follow-ups, and general program communications
  • Enter participant data and program information into databases accurately and efficiently, maintaining up-to-date records for reporting
  • Support program staff with setting up and cleaning up facilities before and after activities
  • Maintain exceptional attendance
  • Actively maintain a safe, healthy, and positive environment that promotes the physical and emotional well-being of employees, customers, and participants.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Successful completion of Bridges Out of Poverty, Getting Ahead Class preferred


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate preferred
  • Must maintain a valid driver�s license and be insurable


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILIIES
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams
  • Ability to address individualized learning needs of participants
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must maintain confidentiality and use discretion in dealing with sensitive or controversial issues and information
  • Desire to serve the segment of the adult population that strives to improve themselves and their families through educational advancement
  • Ability to maintain accurate information and efficient record keeping systems
  • Ability to travel within the Goodwill service area


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sedentary

Lifting up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers, and files. Walking and standing are required occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Limited
  • General office environment infrequently exposed to extreme atmospheric conditions (temperature, noise, fumes, dust, etc.)
